I think that they should keep both original names and just hyphenate so that they can be either UAAU or AUUA.

Ashford at the University of Arizona likes Trident at American InterContinental University (AIU)? I think they are going to do the same as Purdue University Global Campus, which is a separate institute within Purdue University System. The following universities have Global Campus as a separate institution.

    - University of Maryland Global Campus
    - Purdue University Global Campus
    - Colorado State University-Global Campus
    - The University of Arkansas - eVersity

Yes, and they award "Global Campus" diplomas to global campus students:

Irrelevant to the topic at hand, but I think both of those diplomas are awesome and I'd be proud to hang one of those bad boys on my wall.

Both are fine, but for some reason, seeing 'Purdue University Global' bothers me a lot more than seeing 'Colorado State University System' at the top of the diploma. Not sure why, but the Global appendation on all these university names just sounds . . . lesser.

I wonder if this is a trend, my employer, a large private university, is considering spinning off our online, evening, and weekend programs into an "Extended University" with it's own separate division and name. It is to be voted on this month by the board of trustees. No one really knows the reason for this proposed change.

Purdue has Global Campus branch... but you can still take online courses at Purdue's Fort Wayne campus:
    https://online.pfw.edu/programs/
This will give you the real Purdue diploma.

You can also earn a degree via remote learning from Purdue’s main campus in West Lafayette.

You are not alone, it bothers me too. It should read as:

    Purdue University

    Global Campus

    Purdue University System
    Global Campus

I like Georgetown University's School of Continuing Studies... I cannot even read my diploma, except for my name because the diploma is in Latin.

Why? To appease Purdue University Global Campus students? There's no Purdue University System at the moment. There's a Purdue University with its flagship campus in West Lafayette and other regional campuses located in Indiana. If you check the diploma of different campuses within various university systems, you will realize that they do not mirror Colorado State University System. The name on top is the name of the university, e.g., California State University, Long Beach. Reference to the university system might be made in some other wording. Why should the focus be on the university system when the system did not provide the education to the student? The focus should be on the school you attended. I wouldn't want my diploma from Lamar University to have The Texas State University System printed in bold at the top, while Lamar U. becomes secondary.

I think this is pretty weak. If the school benefits from more tuition by affixing its name to an online school, it should do whatever is necessary to align the two. They are CLEARLY making a marketing decision by attaching their name to Kaplan or Ashford or whatever school. They need to live up to their end of the bargain and provide whatever level of education they are known for. To do otherwise is misleading to students and employers. Online students (and would be employers) think they are getting an education and degree from the big name school, and the schools know it.

Not surprised. Ashford is a very crummy school and it doesn't take too long after enrolling to see it. After all these years, reports have been consistently showing me that nothing has really changed.

I commented on their Facebook post and said:

“Folks, just because a University acquires another University does not mean you can have your diploma changed to reflect the University that is acquiring the other. If you wanted a University of Arizona degree then it would have been wise to apply, and attend, the University of Arizona. The courses you took and earned credit for were done with Ashford.”

I mean, I’d rather have a University of Arizona degree over Ashford too if I were them. However, they chose Ashford and if they finish(ed) before the transaction is finished, they earned an Ashford degree at the time of degree conferral.

Inside Higher Ed is always good for humor. Hard to take anything on it for real.

Out of curiosity, whose reporting on higher education do you find most reliable?
