"More than a dozen colleges and universities in New York state are among those most likely to “perish” amid the coronavirus pandemic, according to a new analysis."

Nearly 90 schools are in danger of perishing, according to Galloway’s analysis, including five in Upstate New York and 14 statewide:
    • Adelphi University
    • Bard College
    • Daemen College
    • Fordham University
    • Hofstra University
    • Long Island University
    • Pace University
    • Sarah Lawrence College
    • Skidmore College
    • St. John’s University
    • St. Lawrence University
    • The New School
    • The Sage Colleges
    • Yeshiva University
Note: Fordham University is listed in the “survive” quadrant on an infographic from Galloway, but the full list of schools says Fordham is expected to “perish.” Galloway has not responded to a request for comment.

Maybe one of these schools will merge with Excelsior College and Excelsior with ditch its horrible name.

What were they thinking when they named that school?

I do not see Fordham perishing.

The data used in the methodology might be a bit suspect. But even if valid, would it really be an entire school that “perishes” or just certain programs. Many of these schools have specific programs that are quite strong.

There's a school in Jamaica named Excelsior Community College. It offers 4-year degrees, which is typical of CCs in Jamaica (though not the case in the U.S.).

There's a biscuit brand in Jamaica called "Excelsior." I love their water crackers. I have 2 packs in my cupboard right now (I never run out). It's actually the leading brand of water crackers in Jamaica. I never thought of Excelsior as a horrible name.

It's the state motto of New York. It's just not that bad a name.

Unfortunately, NY continues to go ever downward.

This is insane... maybe online college education will become the new normal?
... and real colleges will shut down.

Real colleges? So, what is online education?

I meant non-traditional online classroom will be the next new 'normal' classroom.... and the traditional in-person classes will die out.

Fake education. Kind of like fake news. :D
In terms of closures, they may be trying to catch up to Vermont.

Yep, fully aware of that. I still think it's a terrible name for a school.

I've always liked the name Excelsior. It sounds like the name of an elite secret society.

In my ears, it sounds like the name of a hotel. A wannabe-luxury hotel. This sort of thing you book for hours. But obviously, that is just me... :)

This is not a very persuasive list.
