University of Oklahoma (Price College of Business) Online MBA

It appears the University of Oklahoma is jumping into the Online MBA arena with their new program launching January 2021 (pending approval). The cost will be roughly $36,000 for the entirety of the program.

A Professional MBA? Is there any other kind? Uh-huh? So, which school offers an amateur MBA? And how's that working out for them? For $36K, it had better be professional. It shouldn't have to say so. I think some schools may be climbing on an already-overloaded bandwagon, here. At least a few will fall off.

 

The Professional MBA through Price is geared towards Working Professionals, hence the name. Their on-campus PMBA offers classes in the evenings and their online PMBA offers class online. Both formats accommodating the working professional.

 

Understood - but aren't pretty well all distance and evening MBAs geared to accommodate the working professional? Maybe that's why it sounded a little stilted to me. It almost sounded like a claim that their program was unique or almost so because it did this.

Nitpicking aside, I think with the sheer number of distance and evening MBA programs, we might very well be headed for the "law school syndrome" - more grads than jobs. Maybe people who want to work in the higehr echelon of business should start with BBAs and rather than get basic business training by an MBA, which might or might not cost a lot of money (this one is 36K) have the basics already and specialize - finance, marketing, BI, etc.

Just a thought.

 

And I see that the prog. carries AACSB accreditation - that's important. And it's synchronous. I understand you get good interaction that way, but these are, as they say, working professionals. Oh well, I guess they have to hone their time management skills and log on at the same time.

I went to night school for more years than I care to count. We had to do that then -- but I thought things might have changed. Maybe synchronous is the mark of a $36K degree - anything less and you're stuck with asynchronous. (Everything old is new again)

 

I did my undergrad in Biology and I tell my wife all the time I wish I had done mathematics or statistics. That opens doors in computer science, data science,
etc. However, I went the weird route to a graduate business degree. I got into banking and became an AVP and managed my own department at 25 and decided I need an MBA. Now I want to specialize and venture into a larger city and domain, hence the specialized masters from Duke University.
