Still pursuing, it is a continuous cohort model. I am in their EdD Org Change and Leadership program. About a year and a half left.

    Seriously, this is a mistake.

If I say there is a 0.000001 chance of something occurring, there are two possible responses. The mathematician will say, "aha, there's a chance!" The statistician will say, "the probability of the occurrence is zero."

You can parse and pick all you want. But if you go around couching your language in terms like you suggest, then you'll always be technically correct and practically wrong. Your choice. Doing so in a discussion thread when you KNOW the meaning of the statement is just arguing to argue. In the real world it's a losing proposition.

If you don't like how I put it, fine. Ignore it. Be my guest. If you chose instead to rebut it, I may or may not respond. My choice. But if you think the difference between being right or being wrong is the difference between "nobody cares" and "people generally don't care," you're mistaken. Technically correct? Absolutely. Irrelevant? Better believe it. It is a distinction without a difference. Being able to spot and avoid getting hung up on those is key to effective decision-making. Distinctions are factually unalike, but it doesn't matter. When it does, it's a difference. Again, it's vital to be able to understand these two. If you get caught up in one you might just miss the importance found in the other.

I spoke with the admission counselor and the First responder (FRP) and Veteran discount is "stackable" which makes the price very appealing....nothing shameful in that! However, the executive certificate is earned first which transitions into the doctorate to take advantage of the $300 per credit + FRP 25% off. Here is the math. 225 x 48 = $10,800. This is a no brainer!

Indeed it is. I thought I remembered Fort Collins as the home of a distance degree-granting college or two, so I checked. Yes - it's the home of Weston Distance Learning, owners of McKinley College and U.S. Career Institute - both degree-granting, distance and DEAC accredited.

But right you are. The only University there is Colorado State. Back to our regular programming...

Yea right, the same admissions counselors who once told a prospective student that the Ph.D. in Psychology will lead to licensure. Their advising team is the same, they have all sorts of answers when you call. The website clearly states "The $300/credit hour doctoral military rate cannot be combined with the First Responder Discount." But who cares? 10k or 100k. I am not paying for it. Do what you like!

Weston Distance Learning, Fort Collins, appears to have been a subsidiary of Weston Education - Denver, which is in bankruptcy. WDL itself appears to be alive, running the schools mentioned. Court documents reveal a really juicy "For-Profit debacle" story. For example, this link. http://omnimgt.com/CMSVol2/pub_47158/698976_695.pdf

I just went to the link you provided, "Unlike most other scholarships or discounts, prior military members can stack their Liberty-given military tuition discount with our First Responder Discount, as long as all qualifications are met." You sound like you are full of piss and vinegar! "Do what you like".... of course I will, I certainly don't need your permission but I appreciated you providing information on this remarkable, affordable, reputable doctoral pathway.

Almost every thread running right now is full of what appear to be short and potentially hostile remarks. Not sure the cause, and there is always a certain amount of it here, but there seems to be more than usual.

It's the whole Internet, and it's been gradually getting worse for years.

Interesting. I wonder why some Liberty PhD programs allow those two to stack? I am in the CJ PhD with Chris and I can't stack them. Maybe I will double check. Or they are trying harder to recruit for your program?

I agree (I am also guilty of being part of the problem sometimes). I bet someone could do a study on that. I also have thought the news media language has grown less descriptive and more like an attempt to influence.

That's a good question and my guess is because you are in the PhD program and not the $300 a credit hour executive certificate program that transitions to a doctoral program. In my research, it appears the executive certificate counts completely towards the doctorate but makes the student an Alumnus applying to the doctoral program upon completion and therefor under a different tuition scale.

I forgot you're no longer in the FB group. Just an FYI, you can earn an Executive Certificate in Passing once you've taken all the courses required for the Exec Cert. To get the certificate, you would just pay a $50 graduation fee. In the Ph.D. you have the option between 820 and 840, for the certificate, you must take 820. So, I don't qualify because I took 840 (no regrets). Someone just reported that they failed 820 by 2 points (must be the worst professor to fail someone instead of giving them 2 grace points...smh). This does not mean you shouldn't take it because others have taken it and passed. I just wasn't interested in the subject matter.

I think by earning the Certificate in Passing, you could qualify for the stacked tuition.

Wow that is crazy about the cert. I might look into that.

I am just surprised that a student actually failed a course other than comps! I have only had one instructor that I could see creating an environment for someone to fail.

Yes, after this term I only have one course left before dissertation phase.

I don't think Comps are a thing anymore.

    Nemo,
They most certainly are. They are a thing for me in two weeks! I think the next semester is the first group of lucky bastardos to not have to do them. Unless my instructor has gone rogue.... Which is actually possible.

Well, yeah, that's what I meant: Going forward. We've already talked about how you got screwed lol Maybe take a semester off and come back when you don't have to do them? :-D

I thought about it. Believe me. Except it would delay graduation by like 6 months.

    ... Thread officially hijacked.
