Cell phone cases?

I just upgraded to an iPhone SE 2020 from a truly venerable iPhone 4. The latter served me well but it was starting not to hold a charge.

    Anyway.

I bought Apple's own silicone case for the new beast. It doesn't look like much. My question is, other than providing an easier grip for my arthritic fingers, does the Apple case offer significant protection? Or should I go with one of those bulky Otterbox type cases?

I have always had phone cases on my phones. Recently, I started using my phone without one and I really appreciate how well they are designed from a "feel" perspective but obviously I worry about dropping it which is only a matter of time. I found some good basically slide on ones from Amazon that are between 10 and 20 dollars that offer quite a bit of hard case protection.

Make sure to get a tempered glass to protect the screen, I just upgraded from an iPhone SE to the new iPhone SE 2020 recently myself. The case won't really matter which brand, I got a Spigen... you can grab one from Amazon, Ebay or whatever, both protect the screen and body very well.

I started using a stick-on tempered glass screen protector when I got my new phone last year because there weren't any full armor cases available for it. On one occasion, I dropped it from so high and in such an awkward way that it left the tempered glass protector badly cracked and mangled. Fearing the worst, I held my breath and peeled off the screen protector to find that the screen underneath didn't so much as have a hairline scratch in it. All I had to do was dust it off and stick another screen protector on. :)

IIRC - My granddaughter (turning 22) has had IPhones since she was around 11. Broke one by accident when she was 12 or 13. Right after that, she wanted an Otterbox for Christmas. I got her one - no more probs - she really liked it. Happy as a clam. Nowadays, she's got more phone cases than I have sets of guitar strings! Complete Apple girl. Phone, Mac laptop, IPad. Don't go to College (she's done) or Uni (in progress) without 'em, I guess.

I have an Otterbox Symmetry on my iPhone 11 Pro Max. I also have a tempered glass screen protector and a glass protector over the back cameras. I always recommend whatever you are most comfortable with!

I have a LifeProof Fre case on my iPhone SE. I've been using this same model of case for my last couple of phones and been happy. An occasional drop with no ill effects. I read about a guy with a similar case who dropped it in the water while fishing. He had his friend call him and he saw it light up from under 3 feet of water. I'm not going to test that but it's a nice story.

Thanks for the advice, folks. I went with the Apple silicone case for “grippiness” and put on a tempered glass screen protector.
