Never heard about this school but the school's website looks a little suspicious ...

It doesn't have any Wiki page... not sure if this is an accredited school.

It is "accredited" by an unrecognized accrediting agency.

"The Confederation of International Accreditation Commission - CIAC is a private, non-governmental, self regulated and fastest growing accreditation/rating agency working towards improvement of quality assurance standards round the globe."

    This is poorly written, btw.

It is nonetheless licensed by the Florida Department of Education.

    Not accredited.

It appears to be licensed by the state of Florida.

It awards two doctoral degrees. However, I don't see any faculty listed.

The DBA is either a "Doctorate in Business Administration," "Doctor of Business Administration, or "Doctoral of Business Administration." They might want to figure that out.

For the EdD (which they abbreviate ED.D.), the school claims that: "Upon completion of the program, graduates can take positions as university faculty...." This is almost certainly false.

The refer to the doctoral dissertation as a thesis, a convention not normally found in the US, but common elsewhere. I get the feeling there's a lot of "elsewhere" about this operation. (It's also referred to as a dissertation on the site. Again, they might want to settle on that one.)

Again, no faculty listed. If you wanted to take a flyer on this thing, that would be an important consideration.

Licensed for 7 years without becoming accredited. I'd want to know why.

I wonder about the I-20 situation.

The Jacalito Taqueria Mexicana down the street gets pretty good reviews on Google.

    Will that do ya?

Their website doesn't look like it's built by someone who is from US...
and they have only a few reviews. I'd recommend people to not trust this school.

This seems to be a multi-pawed animal. It's linked to a lot of places including Universidad Alejandro de Humboldt which is an unpromising-looking Venezuelan website at
http://www.unihumboldt.edu.ve/ Seems natural - if you can't make any money in Venezuela (nobody can - none there) branch out. The Florida school also appears to be associated with this other Venezuelan entity http://www.iunp.edu.ve/ - Instituto Universitario de Nuevas Profesiones - a not very university-like, more career-school-looking site in Caracas.

The head man's name is Carlos Montes de Oca. There are quite a few people of that name - one (not this one) is a well-known artist. There is at least one in Miami - maybe that's him.

All we know - unaccredited, connected to other entities in Venezuela. Probably explains the odd English. Not for me.

    Hello!

Well, to say something positive: ... well... they have a nice weather forecast banner on their website.

    Best regards,
    Mac Juli

Humboldt International is accredited by the Confederation of International Accreditation Commission, https://www.ciacommission.org, an organisation founded by Prof Dr Sir GD Singh, https://www.gdsingh.com

KEISIE International University, Universidad Azteca, Technological University of the Americas, Young Scientist University, etc

Thanks, mbwa. I guess I'll have to amend my statement: Humboldt International appears to have no accreditation that is recognized by CHEA or USDoE for use in the US. That should help keep the process-servers away from my door -- I hope.

In other words, they are not accredited. That word, "accredited," has a specific meaning in this context. That claim does not qualify. Therefore, they are not accredited.

"But judge, I know I was calling myself a "medical doctor," but I didn't mean it in THAT sense." Please.

That's like putting "BSA" after your name because it stands for "Boy Scouts of America."

No, you don't. You don't have to modify the normal usage of a term simply because others have decided to misuse it in this context. The burden is on them to use it properly.

If I told you I was a dentist and that I was licensed by the state, you'd be pretty mad if it turned out my state license was as a plumber. Or that the state that gave me a dentist's license was my state of mind.

Using the term "accredited" in non-recognized ways is a common diploma mill tactic. Not that I'm calling this school a diploma mill, or anything.

Yes I do. All three of us - you, me and mbwa shenzi - have been sued once - unsuccessfully, as it turned out - by an individual who didn't like what we said in foro about a University. You - and I admire you for it - went to considerable effort and expense to prevail handsomely in court. I don't want to have to do that.

Rich, my respect for you and your many accomplishments is undiminished - but I will be the judge of what I have to say or don't. Thank you.

'I hear you knockin' - but you can't come in!' (My favourite Louisiana song for process-servers)

I was defending the idea, not you. You certainly don't need my help, nor my advice. Perhaps I should have not implied it was personal ("no you don't"). My mistake.

I just don't want to leave the impression that it is incumbent on others to work around deceptive language used by a school. But your points--both about the litigious nature of some schools and the previous point about someone telling you what you have to say--are well-taken.

What a gentleman! Thanks, Rich. We're all good - everything's cool.

PS. Your point is well-taken, too. One should not have to tread on eggshells around this kind of language-quagmire. It's unfortunate, but it's probably the best defense (other than silence) against unwanted, undeserved or malicious consequences.

I tried to go to the Singh (owner of the accreditor) site. Mozilla says the security cert. has been revoked - yes, that's the word they used - revoked - so I didn't get to see anything. However, the accreditation org. appears to be alive and well at dubya-dubya-dubya-CIAC-dot-org.

I'm of the same opinion. Pebble Hills University too claims accreditation from CIAC, by the way.

Pebble Hills University is a quite interesting case. Especially, because they would be exactly what I am looking for - if they were legit, which I do not think they are.
And I still did not figure out how they got Shenzhen University, a well reputed university in China, to cooperate with them.

None of us think it's legit -- at least I don't think we do. Pebble Hills has been mentioned in DI threads many times. I remember when it made the bad list in Nigeria. Every time I hear the name I think of Pebble Beach - a much more pleasant thought, I think that's mostly due to the famous Concours. I love vintage cars! https://pebblebeachconcours.net/

Sounds nice. I thought of Pebbles from the Flintstones as in https://superawesomevectors.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/pebbles-flintstone-vector-800x566.jpg.
Any thoughts about the Shenzhen University cooperation? I asked in another thread and even asked Shenzhen University directly, but still no result.
