Its curriculum looks similar to the iMBA program. I was denied admission to the iMBA program 3 years ago. The only Master I am going after is an MBA, and good and cheap MS in Finance. So, far there is no luck with "good and cheap" MS in Finance.

I'm surprised they'd say no to you. Was their iMBA offered through Coursera at the time? That's where it's offered now, for $22K. Maybe have another go?

Although I suppose that UIUC isn't ranked as highly as one might think, so there's that as well.

I was too! I applied when the first cohort at Coursera. I told my best friend about the program, he got in and he dropped out after two modules. He is now accepted to Questrom's edEx MBA starting this fall. Nah, I am waiting for Imperial College London's Global MBA admission. I have a Zoom interview on Wednesday, May 13 with the Senior Program Manager. According to their admission page, this admission round will make a decision by May 27. My alternative is learning MOOC finances, Data Science, Blockchain technologies, and applying for a Ph.D. in Management with FinTech research at the University of Leicester.

Wow this seems like a great deal especially for a mid career person looking to check the box. You can't beat getting a MS deg'tree from a Big Ten school for under $11K.

"Upon completion of the iMSM program, students receive an MSM degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign – the same degree conferred to on-campus students in the MSM program. At the end of their iMSM coursework, students will have the option to pursue an MBA if they so choose."

I mean, yes, that's its athletic conference, but its business school is unranked.

So business school might be unranked...but being a Big Ten school it has name recognition and a huge alumni network to draw upon so its a great value IMO.

Also the on-campus program cost agout $2K ( https://giesbusiness.illinois.edu/msm/tuition) so this makes an even bigger bargain.

If those are your considerations, the University of Phoenix has near-universal name recognition and over one million alumni.

Yeah but UoP doesn't have sports teams playing in a Power Five conference. Sorry when it comes to sports I'm a bit bias with a soft spot for Pac 12 and Big Ten Football. I grew up a UCLA fan and taking post graduate classes in the late eighties on campus in Westwood and later working for UCLA Health for a couple a years I definitely bleed blue and gold. I also bleed maroon and gold after studying Public Health and Health Informatics at U of Minnesota. Also I had a cousin who was a star wide receiver at Illinois who would go on to be a first round draft pick with the 49ers. His time in San Francisco was short but at least he was a member of their 2012 Superbowl team.

At any rate as long as their are folks like myself who breathe and eat sports name recognition will always help.

I live in Southern California and have never been to an actual Rose Bowl New Year's Day game. My ultimate dream match-up would be to see UCLA vs Minnesota. Hoping we get to see college football this fall.

Business schools rankings are pretty important though to some, whether we agree with them or not (do not want to beat a dead horse). I do think the Illinois alumni base is large and you can certainly draw from that but you also want to have successful people in your school of choice.

It also depends on one's goals. Someone in one of the rectangular states might get more benefit from an alumni association from a school that is lower ranked, but local.

Absolutely! There are certainly regional ties that come into play when selecting a program and making certain your career aspirations can be met with that specific program and the alumni.

Speaking of the alumni network! I was invited to Georgetown University's McDonough Business School alumni network in Dallas, Texas. They also invited other schools includes Medical Doctors from the School of Medicine, Law School, Foreign Service School, and etc. I was the only one graduated from the School of Continuing Studies. I felt that they treated me as went to Georgetown from the back door. Although, it was not that bad...but it seemed they did not see I was a real Georgetown alumnus. But who cares, at least I make good money and free dinner that night. Some earned an MBA from McDonough Business School but was still looking for work. :D

Utility is always a question... but... WOW, that price, eh?

McDonough is a phenomenal business school so it is surprising that graduates would have still been looking for employment. Again, each university will have a different perception of remote learning students. Thankfully, at Fuqua, they have been very receptive. I think they understand the time, money and effort put in to creating a streamline program that is every bit as rigorous as on-campus programs. I hate that you had that type of experience with Georgetown.

. Actually I did my degree at Georgetown University on campus. My class was the first graduate of the Technology Management program. It is what it is...I still have my email @georgetown.edu for life. People reorganize it whenever I used it such as a rental car reservation clerk at Boston Logan International Airport.
