At the high end that comes out to $28.75 per hour. A little ridiculous if you ask me.

Makes you rethink the monetary value of work. A number of people will make more on this than they did while actually working. Will they go back to work quietly to make hundreds of dollars less? I have doubts. This may not end well in the long run.

Policymakers in both major parties continue their reactive lurch towards a full blown MMT-powered UBI. It seems we're all in for a ride, but at least those whose liabilities are denominated in USD and whose assets aren't might end up above the waterline. Just remember, if your gold isn't allocated, you don't really own it, and if you don't have your private keys, that crypto isn't really yours.

Have you looked at the cost of cobra insurance?

Fully agree. Although I’m also inclined to be against the notion of corporate welfare, that allows companies to employ people at those wages.

Quick google search came up to $7K per year. At the high end of the unemployment benefit you'll get around $60K per year.

:D Try having kids and an actual decent plan... that is a bloody fraction of the real costs! The last time I knew someone who took out Cobra, it was over $2k a month for a good family plan. $60k in unemployment benefits will help many, yes it will mean many of the working poor may earn more on unemployment than they did working... and that's okay. I just hope it's enough for the middle class who pay more in taxes than they receive in benefits, to get by... for many, it will not be enough.... and it's certainly not living large for a normal middle class family that is not living in a rural Americana.
