Why did Trump push this drug so much? He wanted it spread around to the public at large. This drug can cause DEATH! It should only be administered under supervision of medical physicians. This doctor who is an expert in his field had the audacity to push back against Trump's non-scientific suggestions and apparently got fired for it.

    It was about saving lives.

The headline: “Hydroxychloroquine Rated ‘Most Effective’ Coronavirus Treatment, Poll of Doctors Finds — An international poll of thousands of doctors rated the Trump-touted anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine the best treatment for the novel coronavirus. Of the 6,227 physicians surveyed in 30 countries, 37% rated hydroxychloroquine the ‘most effective therapy’ for combating the potentially deadly illness, according to the results released Thursday.

“The survey, conducted by the global health care polling company Sermo, also found that 23% of medical professionals had prescribed the drug in the U.S. — far less than other countries. ‘Outside the U.S., hydroxychloroquine was equally used for diagnosed patients with mild to severe symptoms whereas in the U.S. it was most commonly used for high risk diagnosed patients’ … The medicine was most widely used in Spain, where 72% of physicians said they had prescribed it.

I'm not an MD I go to one when needed.

Saving lives is of course a noble goal. Unfortunately, the opposite would be the more likely outcome in the case of pushing the drug out for public use without doctor supervision and over doctor recommendations which is what firing was done for.

It was up to MDs to prescribe or apply as one possible treatment under their suprvision and care. President Trump is now accused of telling people to inject and drink disinfectant.
Or you think people are treating themselves with injecting disinfectants?

Trump asked a rather silly question to the experts about using sunlight and disinfectants as a cure, but he absolutely did not recommended that anybody do anything of the sort, and certainly never even hinted a suggestion to the public that they attempt to experiment with injecting themselves with anything. Why can't the press just report the facts instead of spinning it to their whim? It would be nice if we could just stick with the well-deserved criticisms of Trump rather than making up completely absurd misrepresentations that obfuscate the issues and reinforce polarization.

Nevada Doctors Sue Democrat Governor Over Hydroxychloroquine Ban.
The latest is that the medication has been around long time, it's even safe to prescribe to pregnant women.
The "study" that it creates heart issues is flawed and under scrutiny by experts.
“(I)n a March 28 letter to members of the Nevada Osteopathic Medical Association, President Bruce Fong said that the potential benefits outweigh the risks and that the governor’s regulation ‘clearly interferes with a physician’s decision on how to treat their patients.’ …

Basically Dr's report that if the drug administered in the early stages it has the most potential to be effective.

There is no reliable study that shows Hydroxychloroquine is safe and effective for COVID-19. In some studies, it actually caused higher mortality. There is no protocol known to be safe.
Meanwhile, due to Trump's acute case of verbal diahrrea, there is a shortage of Hydroxychloroquine, and people with chronic conditions (like lupus) who need it can't get it. Privileged people have friendly physicians who prescribe it so they can buy some "as a precaution". I quite literally have a neighbor back in Toronto in this. exact. situation, can't fill her long-standing prescription because pharmacies are all out. Are you still sure this is the hill you're willing to die on defending your orange idol? Are you?

Well-deserved criticism of Trump in this case is it shows, again, how monumentally stupid man he really is. And with the amount of decision making he gets to do, this is truly frightening. Gosh, I have my doubts Justin Trudeau is mature and intelligent enough to be our leader, and he is an intellectual and emotional giant compared to the Donald. FFS, people!

P.S. You know as well as I do that with millions listening to Trump's every word, someone somewhere will be dumb enough to drink bleach because of that. It's not the biggest deal, but for comparison sake, Pelosi's scandal right now is the fact she likes ice cream. They in all seriousness are running an attack ad based on her having too much ice cream in her fridge.

ugh, one man died after drinking a fish tank cleaner. Simple rule, maybe avoid discussing off-label use of prescription drugs if you are not an MD? Too complicated?

Since I'm disagreeing with you elsewhere, I thought for the sake of collegiality that I'd point out how strongly I agree with you here.

The story is still developing, but the man who died of the aquarium cleaning agent may have been poisoned by his wife, who may have injested a small amount, herself, to avoid suspicion.

MAY have. The investigation is underway and I wonder what goes into proving that it was one way or the other in a court of law. The circumstances certainly look suspicious to me, however.
