And while this is in the news, Axact is busy creating new material for time-bombs by launching another batch of fake schools, including Golden River University (19 days old) and Yorkfield University (36 days old).

 

The first time I saw this my mind said "Golden Retriever University." Maybe that will be in the next generation of mills.

 

I was just looking at LinkedIn profiles and saw a few liars posting their fake Almeda University degrees. The most sickening was one liar who is working for a State board of education and is at level 3 in her position. She even has the nerve to post that she went there from 2005-2009 as if she actually spent the years and did real coursework. I get so tempted to make phone calls and out these people.

 

Maybe, but the Axactians (that's how they refer to themselves) are so fond of Hill, Creek, Bay, Ford, Mount, Valley and Field that it's more likely that they'll come up with Retriever Field University. Or Retriever Creek University. You never know, though, they might surprise us all. After all, they did launch Brexit University.

 

I've been told that about two months ago, Axact was divided into several new companies, all operating out of Crest Tower, Karachi. New names, but the products and staff are the same.

 

I've avoided posting to this thread since its inception, but after a conversation last night with an esteemed colleague of ours I have to ask: who cares?

Seriously, what does it matter? These schemes will go on as long as their are suckers to be found. There used to be some charm to this stuff, but the internet blew all of that away. Now its just one fake school after another, buyers who enlist them as co-conspirators in their big lie, and employers/clients who don't make the distinction. If this operation ended tomorrow, another (or many) would arise that afternoon to replace it, and you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

There are sufficient safeguards against the success of diploma mills of whatever ilk or location. The problem is that people don't use them.

(This is by NO means a criticism of the people posting to this thread. If this stuff interests you, I'm certainly no one to judge that. And I don't. I'm making a broader point about diploma mills, that's all.)

 

You could say the same thing about just about every other crime. If you want to be apathetic I guess that's your privilege.

 

I'm with Rich on this one. But I'm not apathetic - I just don't give a shit.

 

They never give up, and after the Pakistani government let the criminals go it's unlikely the ring will ever stop. The reason this is actually important is because some of these liars end up in jobs that threaten public safety like medicine, mental health, emergency response, and civil engineering. Local news stations (particularly in the south and out west) have done a good job of going after people with fake degrees and exposing them to the public, but it's not enough. If the whole of media treated this with the same ferocity that they've used to blanketly attack for-profit schools, more progress might have been made.

 

Perhaps I wasn't clear. I'm not apathetic about the crime. I'm bored with the details of one anonymous diploma mill after another, as if the distinctions made any difference. They do not.

The world is filled with opportunists who rush into any void, any crack in any system where money is to be made. They don't go away. Better to focus on the cracks and sealing them up.

 

In a broad sense that might be true but we, here, can't really do that. We, on this board, don't have the power to seal those cracks. The small power that we do have is to work toward raising awareness of these issues, guide unsuspecting people away from these degree mills and we do this by using the details of each anonymous diploma mill as it is brought to our attention. It can be tiresome but no one is required to participate.

 

Can't argue with that.
