Sorry for quoting myself... I mentioned this in jest, as I was rather apprehensive on how the POTUS speech would go today... Never would I have thought that he would be flanked by the corporate CEOS and our pandemic rescue plan would be summarized by the CEOs of Walmart and Walgreens... letting us know that they will ensure we have retail shopping... While honestly, there is a usefulness of bringing both on board for supply chain coordination... while listening to the speech... all I could think of was "Brawndo"... our presidential pandemic response has corporate sponsorship. $1.5 trillion to Wall Street and let's not be hasty, we have weeks to start building test kits, and let's keep on with commerce and shopping until than...

Hey criminals! We'd appreciate it if you'd dial it back a little, just until this pandemic clears up https://ktul.com/news/coronavirus/northeast-ohio-police-department-asks-for-all-criminal-activity-to-stop-due-to-covid-19
I don't know if people in China fall on bullets. Maybe they fall on knives. https://thehill.com/policy/international/487617-chinese-property-tycoon-disappears-after-criticizing-xi-jinpings
Being a long-time citizen of China, you know how the government there operates and that your status won't save you from the consequences of open criticism. Shame he couldn't have left before they banned him from foreign travel after his last big criticism. He's either in a prison camp now, or he's been executed, but either way I doubt he'll ever be seen or heard from again after calling President Jinping a clown. Sad that governments behave this way but it's nothing new and no government is above that behavior.
Wow, I'm our resident radical libertarian, and even I don't agree with that bit. But yes, Ren certainly should have known what would happen. Better to go live in Vancouver if you want to speak openly about the Xi regime.
Hmmm, well, unfortunately, whether you agree or not, it's real, it happens, it's kept track of, nations are named by watch organizations (and the United States has made a watch list on more than one occasion), and it's specifically identified as a known issue in international human rights law under crimes against humanity. Now, maybe every single government isn't doing it, but abuse of power is pretty universal so I'd have a hard time believing there is one out there without a record (or a hidden record).
Iceland is consistently voted as the most peaceful country on the planet https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7157427/Iceland-peaceful-nation-Earth-world-peacefulness-improved.html but they have their share of problems. I mean, who can forget the Magnus Jonsson scandal? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Icelandic_political_scandals
Can one find examples of abuse of power in every country? I'd believe that. But making critics of policymakers disappear? No, and that's what we were discussing.
I am not any kind of history student. I'm pretty sure I went through my entire college career without taking a single history course. In any case, I don't remember any scandals involving people "disappearing." https://www.history.com/news/shocking-political-scandals-united-states

Yes, I know what we're discussing, and that's what I'm referring to. Forced (or sometimes referred to as "enforced") disappearance is a well-known issue, and as I eluded to earlier it's specifically identified by organizations like the UN, AI, and HRW as a known and happening crime against humanity in many countries. This is very old news.
