Not everyone aspires to be an entrepreneur nor is it the only way to achieve wealth.

While I think I understand what you’re getting at... I would implore any person early in their career to be as entrepreneurial as possible with their profession. You always need to be your best advocate and hustle at that hard... you can be entrepreneurial in your career, without trying to be an entrepeneur on the side. The notion of waiting your turn... well...

Which is what the second half of my sentence is implying.

Not on the website yet but my MBA university has hired Ashley Hampton, MBA, ABD as an Assistant Professor. She is finishing up her PhD from NorthCentral University.

Without even looking, I'm guessing he was someone they wanted to place in that role and needed him to have a doctorate to eliminate that objection. Looking now.....NO!

It appears he earned his UoP doctorate in 2012. He took the position at Unity at the end of 2012. One might infer (I do) that his UoP doctorate was part of the mix in evaluating and selecting him for the position. Very nice.

As a side note, we've recently had a thread related to online studies at Unity. Perhaps these programs owe their existence to this President.

I have seen several program chairs and even acting deans that only have masters degrees. I can't imagine a situation where a masters, even from a top 10 school, should be considered a higher qualification than a doctorate from any regionally accredited school. I'm not saying academic snobbery and stereotypes don't affect things. I guess what I am saying is that any school that hires and promotes FT faculty with no doctorate should in theory also be likely to hire non traditional doctorates as well to FT positions.

This topic also makes me think of those programs you see out there with the chair having an unrelated EdD from the school they work for. Seems like they were told 'you need you to check this box somehow.' And the options were an EdD from their own school or a PhD from UoP. Of course, then you see the program chair with an EdD but they won't hire adjuncts with the EdD. That is another story though.

When I was at Marymount (the Virginia one) the dean of the business school didn't have a doctorate.

Yeah. I'd like to see more instructors have a background that includes education, but I suppose that's another matter....

At Temple University, the criminal justice department chair does not have a doctorate (at least one that's equivalent to the Ph.D.). She has a J.D. and an LLM, and she teaches a course in the Ph.D. program as well. Temple offers criminal justice at all degree levels (B.A., M.A. & Ph.D.). Hence, there is a chair for graduate programs who holds a Ph.D.

I don't think it's unheard of that, in some subjects at some schools, eligible professors aren't hugely interested in being chair. Sometimes someone has to be coaxed.

I'd say a Juris Doctorate (especially if it's accredited and this person has passed the bar) is more than adequate to hold that position.

Well, clearly it's not since Temple has a separate chair for graduate programs. However, the J.D./LLM holder is the overall department chair.

Kinda like at Liberty's Helms School of Government, there is a Residential Dean (former lawmaker and J.D. holder) and Online Dean (current DPA student). However, they have a Chair for Doctoral Programs & Research who has a Ph.D.

Maybe we're talking about different things then, because if Temple has her there Temple is clearly saying her education is adequate for them and the position she holds. These things are not held down to hard and fast rules anyway. There have been felony jailhouse lawyers holding teaching positions at Universities. Shon Hopwood comes to mind. So a non-felon with a JD and a LLM holding a high position doesn't sound like much of a stretch.
