I doubt it was a matter of him being "fired." Medvedev goes where Putin needs him to go. Putin is PM? Hey, Medvedev, go sit in the President chair until I can get it back. Putin is President? Hey, Medvedev, go keep the PM chair warm until I can get it back. Now Putin is making his move to consolidate power. Medvedev did what he was supposed to do. I'm sure he will always enjoy a place of privilege within Putin's regime unless he truly falls out of favor.

Kremlin is about to introduce a law that will make ex-presidents into senators for life.

Ayn Rand was known for long, detailed answers to questions, which is why it was so striking when she was asked, "Is there any hope for Russia," and simply replied, "No."

I generally do not care about what she had to say. But in this case, Alisa Zinovievna Rozenbaum (who shares the birthplace with Putin) was correct. If there's hope, I do not really see it. Carthago delenda est.
