Ironically, for thousands of years the Master/Apprentice model of education was the traditional way to gain knowledge, trades, skills. The real tragedy is that educational institutions have convinced the world they are the only valid source of learning. From your statement, you believe that if one has the knowledge, they should be able to prove it. I like that way of thinking but sadly, education is a big business industry and that would threaten its livelihood.

Interestingly, many medical schools are now integrating clinical experience (hands-on) with the basic sciences from day one. The clinical and residency portions of the journey to become a physician is in fact the Master/Apprentice model of learning. Sadly, one has to be burdened with hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt. I like the way you think but if you follow the money trail to answer the questions, greed will win.

I predict in the not too distant future, schools will offer the professional doctorate of prostitution PTP.

"Carson entered the University of Michigan Medical School in 1973, and at first struggled academically, doing so poorly on his first set of comprehensive exams that his faculty adviser recommended he drop out of medical school or take a reduced academic load and take longer to finish.[81][82] He continued with a regular academic load, and his grades improved to average in his first year of medical school. By his second year of medical school, Carson began to excel academically by seldom attending lectures and instead, studying textbooks and lecture notes from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m."

Point being, Dr. Ben Carson gained much of his knowledge through self study of textbooks.
Of course he later became a world renowned Pediatric Neurosurgeon.

    You may think you're kidding, but . . .

Google the term stripper doctorate. Just do it. You'll find quite a bit of fascinating reading that may , um, give you satisfaction if that sort of thing floats your boat.

I was told by an associate recently that IUHS Medical School now has some kind of partnership with The University of Maryland and another with Walden, both for Masters programs. I checked the site but don't see anything more than them mentioned as partners next to two programs.

It's a loophole to qualify for financial aid. Student gets accepted to foreign medical school. Student can't afford foreign medical school. Student enrolls in distance learning US graduate school full-time and qualifies for student loans. Student juggles studies and graduates with hundreds of thousands in student loans. Graduate can't get a residency in USA. Graduate mops floors in a hospital for 5 years trying to get a medical residency. Graduate suffers from depression. Graduate re-applies to a Physician Assistant school and takes out more student loans. Graduate is a slave to debt for rest of natural life.

Grim. Listening to accounts of people who've gone into hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt and can't find a residency is sad. At least with IUHS it's 80K or less, so that's something, but even still, if you can't find a residency you just lost up to 80K.

I think it's awesome that the UK schools have programs like those. It's important to note that the fine print for some of the programs I've seen state that you have to already be a practicing Physician or other high level medical professional.
