91 y.o. man earns PhD

    He obviously must have completed this for money or a tenure track position.

    The U. of South Africa has been a place of last resort before: Nelson Mandela doing his law degree from Robben Island Prison; Doug Dean (who wrote the 'degrees for prisoners' chapter of my book) doing his PhD from a maximum security prison in Wisconsin, when no US school would take him.

    I have a degree from Unisa.

    Yes, please tell. UNISA has been a chimera on this board since its inception. It would be great to hear from someone who's done it.

    My experience with Unisa was good. It was a long time ago, before online education was what it is now, so it was really what was known as a correspondence course. I completed a BSc(Hons) which consisted of a number of modules. Very much like The Open University used to operate, because the OU was actually based on Unisa. In South Africa, Unisa had a good reputation. Some of the professors at the university where I worked had PhD's from Unisa.
