So I have searched and read a few threads regarding online PhD or DBA programs however most of them deal with Liberty University, University of Cumberlands, Walden, etc. I would absolutely LOVE to pursue an AACSB accredited PhD or DBA program as a traditional on-campus student however being married, having 2.5 year old twins and a nearly 6 month old does not lend itself to pursuing a doctorate traditionally. I am in the predicament where I can either pursue a doctorate at a non-profit university online with a university that maintains ACBSP accreditation or not pursue one at all. I am not really looking to move into academia at the moment, I am more so wanting to pursue this degree as a personal achievement. Right now the only university that peaks my interest that is ACBSP accredited is Grand Canyon University. Does anyone else know of any? A few residencies are not an issue however, like I said, I am the main income earner and traditional studies are not possible.

What happened to the M.S. in Finance at the University of Oklahoma? Anyway, I'd recommend UNGC. I think it's the only online w/residency Ph.D. from an AACSB accredited school. The tuition is also affordable

If you're doing one for personal achievement, why the anguish? Just pick something that seems to fit your eye (and/or budget) and go for it.

I am concerned about your statement that you are"not really looking to move into academia at the moment." With a doctorate earned by distance learning, please don't expect to enter academic...ever. At least, not through traditional means.

If "personal achievement" is really your desired outcome, you should have no trouble finding dozens and dozens of alternatives. But it sounds like you want to be able to use this degree in the future. If so, please take the advice John Bear has offered for decades in his book: be sure the degree you seek will meet your needs now and in the future. Easier said than done, of course, but it is you who must do it.

When I spoke with the recruiter for the program she said it was be easily manageable for someone working full-time. However, it definitely was not a program aimed at those who work full-time and have a family. We had a 2 hour live session on Mondays for Financial Management and a 2 hour live session on Thursdays for Financial Accounting. Then for each class we had to read 3 chapters per week, watch 1 hour of recorded lectures, do 1 homework assignment and 1 quiz. All while also studying to ensure the information was retained and understood. I was easily spending 30 hours per week outside of my full-time employment. It had got to the point where I was going to work and then doing schoolwork. I had to essentially shut out my family in order to stay on top of things. Do not get me wrong, I was doing great. I had a 100% in each class. However, it was coming at a significant cost to my family and I was not willing to put them through that for 16 months.

The program director said he does not blame me one bit and said that he would love to have me back in a couple of years when my kids are older and in school themselves. It is a PHENOMENAL program for younger individuals who may not have a family.

I am already doing some work for the university I got my MBA at so I am confident that if I decided to move into academia in the future, it would still be difficult but I am building that report with them. Hopefully it would give me a head up on other applicants.

Not to appear gauche, since you're generally a fine writer (I say that about very few people), but one does not build up a report, one builds up a rapport (note that the "t" is silent):

    rap·port [ra páwr, rə páwr]
    (plural rap·ports)
    n
friendly relationship: an emotional bond or friendly relationship between people based on mutual liking, trust, and a sense that they understand and share each other's concerns

    No big whoop.

Dangit! I knew that sounded wrong! I’m going to chalk that one up to dealing with the twins. ;) LOL

Gotcha, makes sense! Have you considered K-State's Ph.D. in Personal Financial Planning?

Maybe you could pursue your finance interest at the doctoral level instead. Idk if it has synchronous aspects or residencies but I know it's an online program. I do know it's not accredited by any programmatic accreditation agencies. It's offered by their College of Health and Human Services as opposed to their College of Business.

Thomas Edison State University is ACBSP-accredited, and their DBA program starts in January. They are an online university, but they are also a public school that wasn't formerly a for-profit. They only allow students to take one course at a time, and the estimated completion time for the program is three years. That sounds doable for a full-time worker with kids.

I applied to Grand Canyon University’s DBA program. I am going to continue to research programs and see what else I can find.

There is Athabasca and Royal Roads in Canada. The exchange rate made them a steal.

"In addition, the program responds to current MBA or technical graduate students aspiring to become consultants or professors. "

Hmmmm. I would love to hear how they do that. It won't be just the award of the degree.

Another real bargain is the British Pound, at about $1.21. When I did my program at Leicester, it was about $1.70.
