The news have been bleak lately. The new conflict of words this week is with Iran. Last week it was with Venezuela, and before that it was with NOKO. https://www.foxbusiness.com/politics/jack-keane-u-s-taking-appropriate-action-as-tensions-with-iran-elevate
I know it is a naive wish for no more wars, but I think politicians that vote for war should have something in the game. It is just too easy to send other people children into war. It is sad when more veterans will die from the ills of homelessness, and suicide, than in the theater of war. In Canada, the government is still fighting veterans for their rightful pensions. One of our sons has applied to the Canadian military. I am happy for him to join the canadian military, but I distrust our politicians , both left and right.
Distrust of government officials is a healthy attitude in a modern more or less democratic society! Lincoln in his first inaugural address mentions that the American people give only limited power to their elected officials and take back even that power into their own hands at short intervals thus limiting the mischief any single official can work. This is the one overwhelming argument I see for electing judges, by the way. I don't like the appointment system and I don't like lifetime tenure. I don't like electoral politics for judges either but it's at least transparent to the people from whom all authority ultimately flows.
