I've some across PROMO CODE and Discount Code for Straighterline, etc. while browsing thru the forum BUT can't seem to find the thread again! Damn it. I've searched using keywords and am pulling my hair out. Looks like SL promo codes that I wrote down expired on the 1st of the month. I imagine they rotate their codes, etc. Being super frugal, I refuse to purchase a course full price! LOL Luckily I have some time to find new codes, since I'm working on two courses with them now. Are they pretty good about getting new codes out? Fingers crossed!

And thanks for the FREE course listings-- I have lots to research now!

This is an advertisement. It appears the poster, Dr. Santosh Guptha operates the school and is also the Chief Trainer. Coding training costs INR 25,000 ($390.05 US) for 140 hours of instruction. That's cheap by our standards, but the only "free" things I can find mentioned are the videos and sample exams that are included in the course - that you paid for.

    Hi all,

Some social service related training. All the below are self-study online and lead to a Certificate of Completion.

Addressing Past Sexual Assault in Clinical Settings – This training by Women’s College Hospital in Toronto, Ontario is focused on providing front-line support to women who have previously experienced sexual assault.

A Strategic Planning Approach to Suicide Prevention. This course can help you identify activities that will be effective in addressing the problem of suicide and assist with prioritizing efforts among the different options. From the Suicide Prevention Resource Center (SPRC).

Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SRSS) – The Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale is an evidence-based tool for assessing and documenting a risk assessment. You receive a certificate of completion when you are done the 1-hour training.

Counseling on Access to Lethal Means (CALM) – The CALM course discusses statistics on suicide methods, as well as how to bring this conversation up to clients in a counselling situation. It is especially valuable for working with adolescents and teenagers, who are more prone to impulsive suicidal actions. From the SPRC.

Domestic Violence Risk Assessment and Management – Learn the skills to identify and assess intimate partner violence and how to intervene to keep someone safe. A 3-hour self-study online course, free from Western University in London, Canada.

Locating and Understanding Data for Suicide Prevention. "This course presents readily-accessible sources of data that can help you understand the suicide problem in your state or community, and determine which data are most useful for informing your prevention activities." From the SPRC.

Preventing Suicide in Emergency Department Patients - "This online course teaches professionals who work in emergency departments how to conduct screening, assessment, and brief interventions with patients at risk of suicide." From the SPRC.

Responding to Domestic Violence in Clinical Settings – The Ontario Government has produced this training (focused on female victims/survivors) of domestic violence, designed for social workers, physicians and other frontline workers.

    Hi all,

More courses from the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN). Requires you to sign up for an NCTSN account but otherwise free. Many Continuing Education (CE) credits available, but I haven't evaluated which ones are applicable for what CEs. I've only taken the Homeless Youth Online Training but the others should lead to certificates as well.

Homeless Youth Online Training - "designed for direct care staff working with homeless youth, including staff working in drop-in centers, emergency shelters, transitional living programs, and independent living programs. This 11-lesson course covers a range of topics including adolescent development, adolescent risk behaviors, LGBTQ youth, HIV testing, legal and ethical issues, resiliency, and trauma among homeless and runaway youth"

Psychological First Aid - "PFA online includes a 6-hour interactive course that puts the participant in the role of a provider in a post-disaster scene. This professionally-narrated course is for individuals new to disaster response who want to learn the core goals of PFA, as well as for seasoned practitioners who want a review"

Reducing the Risk of Childhood Sexual Abuse - "Please join us for this joint project between the NCTSN and Prevent Child Abuse America to discuss the primary prevention and intervention strategies for child sexual abuse."

Skills for Psychological Recovery (SPR) Online - "Aims to help survivors gain skills to manage distress and cope with post-disaster stress and adversity. This course utilizes skills-building components from mental health treatment that have been found helpful in a variety of post-trauma situations. Research suggests that a skills-building approach is more effective than supportive counseling. SPR is appropriate for developmental levels across the lifespan, and is culturally informed."

With high end colleges offering free unaccredited classes via MOOC it seems like what you pay for with online college classes is the accreditation and degree path.

Cool! I'm working through the Qu'ran this year as one of the items on my Bucket List. I'm not religious but I'd like to learn Arabic one day, and develop a deeper understanding of the Middle East and Arab culture.
