    Hi Everyone,

Does anyone know if there is any Ph.D. in Finance, Ph.D. in Business Administration or Ph.D. in Management with Finance concentration via distance learning? I have been gauging around the Internet, but could not find any. There are Doctors of Business Administration with a Finance concentration; especially, from Liberty University. However, I prefer a Ph.D. avoiding to answer what is DBA and possible looking to become adjunct in the future.

Right now, I am looking at option with Imperial College of London's Global Master of Business Administration (MBA) and the University of Leicester's Ph.D. in Management with Finance research concentration. However, this route takes me longer to complete. I like the University of Leicester's program, but since I am new to the finances...I need some excellent foundation courses before working on research.

    Thank you!

If you're going to be teaching in the U.S., I'm sure that colleges and universities know what a DBA is since it's a relatively common degree.

My search didn't come up with much. Kansas State University has a PhD in personal financial planning, and Northcentral University has a PhD in business with a concentration in financial management.

    Thanks Sanatone and FTFaculty,

I thought about the following combinations:
    Most Expensive Option and Time
    1) Imperial College London's Global MBA and University of Leicester's Ph.D in Management with Finance Research

    Second Most Expensive
    2) Harvard Extension School's ALM in Finance and University of Leicester's Ph.D in Management with Finance Research

    Cheapest Option
    3) CourseRA, EdX, and Udemy in Finances (No Degree, for knowledge and foundations only) . and University of Leicester's Ph.D in Management with Finance Research

    Cheaper and Faster Option
    4) Liberty University's Doctor of Business Administration with Finance Concentration

I am not sure if you are asking for yourself or someone else but Liberty requires an MBA for admission into the DBA program. From their website: "Official transcripts showing an earned MBA from a regionally or nationally accredited institution. Additional requirements will be necessary for the accounting and information systems area of study."

Actually, Liberty University does not requires an MBA, but any program that is accredited by AACSB or ABCSP.

They may want to update their website then, the quote was taken directly from there.

As far as I know, only the accounting and the information systems specializations don't require an MBA. These two specializations require either an MBA with 12 credit hours in the specialization or an M.S. in the specialization. The other specializations do require an MBA.

Playing around with the website, it depends on where you look. I just checked both the Finance and Non-Profit Management specializations and they both say what TEKMAN said so it may be all of them. They just need to update their main page.

I spoke to a representative online, but I was told to submit the application. So, I submitted the application and an admission counselor called me on the phone. I told them that my Master in Technology Management at Georgetown University has Accounting, Finance, Leadership, and Ethic Courses; but the program is not accredited by AACSB or ABCSP. Even though the school is accredited by AACSB still not qualified for the admission.

I guess Liberty can afford to be picky since their DBA is a very competitive program.

Guessing then that the tech mgmnt masters isn't from the b-school, then. I have to say though, that's if it's Liberty, you ought to be able to talk to someone else directly in the deprtment and end around the admission counselor and probably get some serious consideration. Often times all they have in front of them is a little chart, and they don't know diddly.

Since Georgetown is about as far above Liberty as Tiger Woods's golf game is above mine, I have to think if you snoop around, you should be able to talk directly to a prof, someone who teaches in the program, or look up who's actually heading it up, the director. Admissions people are about like academic advisors, they often just look at a set of criteria and use no judgment whatsoever.

My question though is why a guy with a masters from an elite is even interested in Liberty. THEY'RE not good enough for YOU.

I am trying to get into finance and investment. I don't think I can advance my career in technology industry anymore.

So you talking like literally working in investment banking? Or teaching finance and investment? Or stock broker? Or regular banking like my son in law the loan officer?

I want to get into passive investment and stock trading, eventually I want to have my own investment firm. However, I want a degree that I can fall back if I need to back to working for corporation.

The PhD or DBA would be more about an academic job, if you wanted to fall back on that. Don't know about the utility of it otherwise. I'd be into the Heriot-Watt Edinburgh Business School DBA or PhD. Self-study, inexpensive, very good school. But at the end of the day, with a masters from Georgetown, I don't know what more you need. Not sure academia can offer you all that much more in your chosen field. Of course, far be it from me to dissuade someone from pursing more education for personal goals.
