Thank you! I began the Ed.D. in 2015 with the American College of Education (ACE). As far as I can tell, I am somewhere in the neighborhood of the 10th graduate of this (relatively) young program. I've seen some ACE threads here over the years, including some by members who started but did not continue with the program. So, I may be the lone ACE representative here. Overall, I am pleased with my experience. The faculty, especially in the dissertation phases, were attentive and helpful. At around $20,000 for the whole program, the price was right as well, especially for a regionally-accredited doctorate.

If anyone has any specific questions about ACE or the program, I'm happy to answer. Otherwise, thank you for the well wishes and I'm relieved to be done!

I recently attended the commencement ceremony for my M.S. in Criminal Justice at Lamar University. It was a pleasure having the opportunity to see the campus!

As it relates to ACE's Ed.D., I connected with a then-fellow learner on LinkedIn over a year ago while enrolled in the program. Even though I withdrew from the program, we always kept in touch. Last week, he successfully defended his dissertation!

What a great ending. Congratulations. I have seen their ads over the last year or so and wondered about the program. Nice to hear your first hand experience. I graduated last year with a Master of Science in Education from Cairn University. It was a combination program of intensives and online. The thought of a doctoral program has crossed my mind naturally. Just not sure I can fit it into my life at present.

    Well done Dr. S.

Way to go on completing this program. I can relate to the sacrifice of time and energy that you have gone through. How was the program for you?

    Congrats!

Thank you, farmboy. I enjoyed the 8-week accelerated format of the program, which allowed me to complete in 15 months. However, this accelerated format was very demanding. The overall program required a lot of writing and a moderate amount of research. I found Quantitative Methods, Legal Aspects, and the Capstone to be the most challenging. However, I think my experience in law enforcement and juvenile justice allowed me to better meet the objectives of the various courses. Overall, I think the program was great!

The accelerated format does sound like the way to go, if one can devote the time to it. As a Correctional Chaplain for over a decade It makes sense how your Criminal Justice experience aided you in reaching the objectives.

Was your capstone project juvenile justice based?

I had a friend back home who was the chief chaplain for my former police force.

Contrary to the name of the course "Capstone in CJ," it wasn't a project-based course. Weeks 1 - 3, 5 - 6 and 8 were discussion posts and quizzes based on 3 weekly peer-reviewed articles. My original discussion posts were an average 1200 words though the minimum requirement was 450. However, the professor asked like 5-6 questions and he wanted us to fully elaborate on each so there is no way you could do that in 450 words. We also had to post a critical thinking question to the class. Then we had to respond to at least 2 of our peers' discussion posts with substantive comments. Week 4 was a 3-hour long mid-term exam consisting of 3 essay questions, each requiring 750 words. Week 7 was a scholarly book review of "Down, Out & Under Arrest by Forrest Stuart." The review had to be 2250 - 2700 words and supported by a minimum of 5 peer-reviewed articles.

Most of the research papers in my other courses were centered around juvenile justice.

If I recall correctly I started looking for an online degree back in 2004 and stumbled across Degreeinfo. At the time I was looking for an MBA to help strengthen my commissioning package for the Air Force. I ended up doing an MBA through NCU, applied to get commissioned right before I finished, and was selected. I commissioned in 2007 and I am about to hit my 18 year mark next month. Everyone on here is a motivator and this forum has always been a great resource. Since getting my B.S. in 2004 I always dreamed of completing a doctoral program. Thanks to the many motivating stories here I looked hard in 2013 and decided I wanted to get a Doctor of Health Sciences from either Nova Southeastern University and A.T. Still University. On Oct 2014, I began the journey and this week complete that journey. On May 25th, I attended A.T. Still University's commencement ceremony and walked across stage with a great big smile. My better half says I need to take a break but that will be hard for me...I really enjoy healthcare administration BUT I believe I want to get into patient care and I am looking hard at Yale's Physician Associate Program. It is something that will likely wait for a couple of more years but I look forward to that challenge.

Oh yeah, almost forgot...I also graduate with a Masters in Operational Art and Military Science on Monday and just found out I was selected for promotion to Lt Col. Definitely a lot of good things happening at the same time. :)

Just wanted to take a moment to offer a degreeinfo.com success story...

I've been a follower of this site for several years and have been fortunate to see all the new programs and debate the credibility of other offerings. Today I'm happy to report that I've completed my Doctor of Philosophy in Leadership (business concentration) from the University of the Cumberlands. Started the program in May 2015 and defended my dissertation two weeks ago. The dissertation process was not easy, but entirely doable. I learned about this particular program based upon discusses that occurred on this very discussion group.

I'm available to answer questions regarding the University of Cumberlands program. Just send me a note...

I get to make another post in this thread!

I completed the Graduate Certificate in Supply Chain Management from The Pennsylvania State University early last month. I've been in a bit of a punch-drunk phase since then.

Now, to try for an MS in Data Analytics from WGU in one term to finish up my GI Bill or not....

Congrats on finishing! Let me know how the WGU MS goes, I've been strongly considering that one myself as I'm hoping to build a career marrying counselling and therapy to technology, and that seems like it would give me the background (when combined with an MSW for clinical skills and a PhD in Human Services for research skills) to collect, analyze, and present compelling data.

My own contribution to the DegreeInfo Success Stories is completing my Bachelor of Professional Arts in Human Services from Athabasca. Entirely self-paid because I dropped out of too many programs in the past and didn't want to owe my student loan issuer any more money. I've still got about $5,000 on a Line of Credit from it, but I'm happy to be done. Transferred in 24 courses, completed 16.

Edit: And I get the parchment next month, woo!
