That's all you need then, the pub, if you already have the teaching experience. Once you finish the masters in accounting, your CC will almost certainly sign you up to teach an acct course if there's availability. At that point, you'll be pretty much ready to get the CV ready and go on the market if you want.

I swear, if you want to join forces on a pub soon, please PM me. We can surely find some overlap in our interests---last semester I taught a cyberfraud course, maybe that area?

My current idea is to figure out what is this "blockchain" concept people keep talking about and apply it, conceptually, to some or the other problem in Accounting. This feels like it should be up my valley, before I learn field-specific research methods.

Hey, maybe taking some relatively obscure cyberfraud (or plain financial fraud) and design a distributed ledger that would prevent it? Could you give some pointers on what it could be? Clearly I have a lot to research and educate myself before attempting something like that, but we could try to team up. PM me if this makes sense and you have a more specific idea.

Your department scares me a little bit. People here seem to all have very solid records, and it's a sizable department too. And the school is, ostensibly, a Compass Point State University (albeit double AACSB accredited). This points to a picture where there's no huge faculty shortage, at all. I would not be surprised to find a Yale PhD in a Humanities department at a solid Master's school like yours; but that field doesn't have shortage - it has a sizable PhD glut. You guys don't have Yale PhDs, but most everyone has a solid degree and/or distinguished career in the field, and a rather R1-like publication record. They even pressure Lecturers to have an active research program ;) This picture kind of casts doubt on this whole gamble.

Someone with your background can start simply by reading Satoshi's whitepaper: http://nakamotoinstitute.org/bitcoin/

I know you weren't talking to me, but have you ever seen a film called Rogue Trader? It's a dramatization of how Nick Leeson inadvertently brought down Barings Bank, and even basic crypto, not even a blockchain, could have prevented all of it, at least judging by the scene with the faxes....

Thanks, I needed that. Clearly searching for a perfect source is a procrastination technique on my part. Besides, there's no avoiding primary sources. I'm printing Nakamoto paper right now.

I don't know much about the blockchain thing, but I don't mind the cyberfraud angle generally. Glad to work with you. My department shouldn't scare you--you have a better CV than me and they hired me. We actually have some Yale, Harvard, Stanford PhD people here, but always in the liberal arts or areas like that, like you were saying. We do have Vanderbilt PhDs in the biz school, though, which isn't too far away, and one Yale PhD in marketing. You can look her up. There are several here with bachelors and masters from Ivies and Ivy equivalents, I play golf with a guy who went to Wharton for undergrad. Great guy, totally average fellow--really smart and all, but doesn't put on airs. We're definitely not elite, but we serve our purpose. Don't see any reason why you couldn't distinguish yourself in this type of place. A PhD from a Flagship U such as you have is nothing to sneeze at.

Well, certainly. The source of my degree is completely fine. More to the point is the fact that I am an absolute noob in the field, when an (unusually strong, but at least on paper) Compass Point State is able to hire true scholars. Even as Lecturers :). Having said that, not all CPSUs have equally impressive departments; maybe there's place for me somewhere.
Anyway, I've read the Satoshi Nakamoto paper (somewhat in my field, and an absolute masterpiece of clarity, though leaving out a lot of necessary background. Whoever he really is is a truly impressive individual/team, especially considering the fact that the Bitcoin codebase is an engineering marvel too), and downloaded a dissertation on Blockchain and fraud. So far it just helps me feel more inadequate :)

When you're ready to dive into academia, just let me know. Will be glad to let you know what searches are coming up. While you haven't officially worked in accounting, I bet you can do some consulting in that field, if you haven't already, that will pass for experience. Search committees are having a tough time finding qualified candidates. You're probably more qualified than you think.

If you're in a city of any size there are almost certainly groups meeting about blockchain stuff, check Meetup.com and the like.

Thanks for encouragement. My biggest problem right now is lack of knowledge; this is, after all, something that can be helped.
Technically, the field I'm working in right now is taxation; I help enforce a teeny tiny bit of the Income Tax Act. If you really squint, that's experience. We work in teams with accounting-qualified auditors.

I am in a city of a quite substantial size where there's for sure a sizable crypto community, as there are substantial financial and fintech sectors here. I'll look into that.

    You mean, under the bridge?

Why under a bridge I want to give some of my experience with accounting from school, even though I am still learning. @FTFaculty has a wealth of knowledge about accreditation as it relates to college's and universities. I thought I new about them. Now I am beginning to understand alot more

Update: I'm accepted into the University of London/ACCA Master's program, and will pay my fees this week. I'm both excited and scared.
As for research, I discovered that the co-inventor of "belief sets" Glenn Shafer published accounting research applying his concepts, and that some people (including Shafer's accounting co-authors) racked up very, very impressive publication records applying generalized evidence combination/uncertainty handling methods to the broad area of Audit. These concepts are more or less familiar to me (discounting 10-year break), and my PhD advisor directly specialises in similar methods. There's even fraud-related angle. Looks like I'll look into this first (even though blockchain promises to be more relevant in the medium run).

Wait, wait... University of London, Heriot-Watt MBA, LLB at Northumbria... I know you're a smart guy, but are you doing all of these at once?

I never did H-W MBA. Northumbria is on hold at the moment; I'm awaiting information on re-enrolling. NU ends their distance LLB program; I might be forced to re-enroll this year to access teach out, OR, if they hiked the fees, might be forced to withdraw or transfer somewhere (I passed my first year). If I re-enroll, it'll technically be at the same time with my Master's; I will in practice have to postpone active cramming till after December.
So right now, it's MSc at London, and, in all likelihood, also Bachelor's from Oxford Brookes. My employer (Canadian government) even agreed to reimburse my fees, in pleasant surprise.
