https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/bump-stock-sales-las-vegas_us_59d61b0ce4b0cde45873319d Oh great!
They are a loophole to a law that nearly everyone is saying should be closed. I'm hoping that the people buying them out are just collectors who don't want to miss out on an item that might be illegal soon.
There are several other "solutions" that do not violate the law and can provide similar results on semi-autos. I have even seen mods for bolt action rifles.
Meaningless, feel-good symbolism. Anyone competent in gunsmithing can turn a semi-automatic rifle into full-automatic without much trouble. Of course, that's illegal, but by definition.......drum roll please.....criminals don't obey the law.
It is true that criminals don't obey the law, but most mass shooters weren't criminals before they carried out their murders, and they obtained their guns legally. It takes the right connections to get certain things.
Around 7 years ago. Sometime around the end of the first year of the Obama Presidency, an ATF official recommended approval of this "goofy little doodad," as he called it. Story here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/investigations/the-goofy-little-doodad-approved-under-obama-that-was-used-in-las-vegas-carnage/2017/10/04/3a1a2104-a935-11e7-850e-2bdd1236be5d_story.html?utm_term=.b6960f90cb58 Some doodad... J.
It's funny, President Obama appeared to right wing people as very much anti 2A...which he may have been but a lot of things happened positively contra the 2A during his Presidency. Especially the SCOTUS decisions.
I agree. We should also put a lot of thought into criminalizing certain speech. Also, cops know who the bad people are, know who has illegal guns, we should probably curtail the 4th amendment and let LE/FLE search suspected homes unregulated as well. That way we'll really get rid of the bad people. You were good with stop and frisk as implemented in NYC, right? It help deter crime, wonder why they stopped it.
I don't know if ATF rubber-stamping this "goofy little doodad" would even come to the President's attention. Their take: it's a device, not a firearm. Would it? I just mentioned Pres. Obama because it happened during his time in office - not because he or his party personally approved it. I doubt he'd be called upon to do so, would he? J.
Bump stocks aren't protected by the 2nd Amendment, and there is no evidence that NYC's stop and frisk policy deterred crime. Crime was dropping nationwide when that policy was implemented. Correlation does not equal causation. I don't know where you've been...your whole life, but the Supreme Court has already determined that certain types of speech aren't protected.
I don't think he would either, and I mentioned because it was approved while he was in office just like you do...not that he is somehow complicit in it's approval. That'd be just as dumb as blaming gas prices on the President, IMHO.
https://www.yahoo.com/news/nra-backs-regulation-apos-bump-184300567.html NRA backs regulation of bump stocks.
May we explore what you really are looking for? The LV shooter passed the federal background check, and wait period repeatedly. His psychological profile had little indication of his instability. What kind of background check, wait or solution would be satisfactory in your opinion?
I'm saying that mass shooters aren't like your typical criminals and, when things are illegal, they are often much more difficult to obtain. This shooter bought bump stocks because automatic weapons are so difficult to obtain. I agree with many Republicans, Democrats, and partially with the NRA. Bump stocks should be banned or at least strictly regulated.
I agree with many Republicans, Democrats, and partially with the NRA. Bump stocks should be banned or at least strictly regulated.[/QUOTE] How does that even remotely solve the problem? You do understand a "bump stock" is simply a tube with a protruding part, right? There are many 3D printing version available online, or simply go down to home depot and by the parts for $15. Fine. Ban it. Do you not think tomorrow evil minds will not have something new? Ban that. Then, the next thing. Then, the next thing. At what point do we look at the root cause? And, no, it is not "guns" or the 2nd Amendment. Maybe if we teach our children differently; we give them a moral compass with absolute cardinal directions. It is the little devils we raised in the last few generations, coming home to eat us. Perfect example just recently as the "antifa" is attacking the ACLU
Andrew Philip Kehoe (February 1, 1872 – May 18, 1927) was an American farmer and treasurer of his township school board, notable as a mass murderer for killing his wife and 43 other people (including 38 children), and injuring 58 people by setting off bombs in the Bath School disaster on May 18, 1927. He committed suicide near the school by detonating dynamite in his truck, causing an explosion which killed several other people and wounded more. He had earlier set off incendiary devices in his house and farm, destroying all the buildings, as well as killing two horses and other animals. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Kehoe
