    Excerpt:

Remember: this was a person vaunted and celebrated by the left for her opposition to President Bush and the Iraq War. Like the woman she raised campaign funds for, Hillary Clinton, whom Dick Morris insisted screamed about "F------ Jew bastards," anti-Semitism may have been at the root of it. Anti-Semitism is very common on the fringes of the left, and it's not solely found among knuckle-dragging troglodytes. It's right there in suburban Virginia where "a wife, mother of twins, author, anti-nuclear activist, and a former covert CIA ops officer" as Plame describes herself on her Twitter front page, live.

Con't... Blog: Take a look at Valerie Plame's long history as an anti-Semitic bigot

A Jewish fella, Scooter Libby, was convicted of outing the already outed Plame.

I fail to see implications of this. So Plame retweeted a link to an article, thus either overlooking or agreeing to its Anti-Semitic component, suggesting that she may, or may not, be to some degree anti-Semitic. It doesn't mean that WMD excuse for invading Iraq was valid; or she and her husband were wrong opposing it; or leaking her identity as a CIA agent wasn't a crime. It was not, they weren't, and it was.

One thing that article (poorly) shows is "Anti-Semitism is very common on the fringes of the left, and it's not solely found among knuckle-dragging troglodytes". This strikes me as trivially true though. If you replace "the left" with "the right" here, it would likewise be trivially true. People like to find justifications for their biases, and the fringes are where justifications are found. Certainly anti-Semitism was specifically cultivated by both Soviet Union (which influenced a good portion of dumber "intellectuals" at the left) and by Southern racists that were courted by and found home in the Republican Party. There's also a garden variety bias, like one displayed by Trump himself on several occasions. Deplorable, but sadly common; on many sides, on many sides. On the other hand, both political camps have healthy number of Jews, and large number of people who are not anti-Semitic.

At first I thought this thread was going to be about the little dude (tattoo?) on Fantasy Island. He he

She also retweeted the investigaterussia.org link and then when people called her out on it she issued this apology; "OK folks, look, I messed up. I skimmed this piece, zeroed in on the neocon criticism, and shared it without seeing and considering the rest". Not much more need to be said really.

So what's the over/under on the alt.left rehabilitating good ol' Joe McCarthy? One year? Two...max?

Like I've mentioned before. The Russian thing coming back again is weird, I mean really really interesting. I grew up here in the 70's and 80's, and while probably not the height of the Russian scare like in the 50's and 60's it certainly colored American life. To see it coming back en masse this way and especially by people on the left.

    It's weird.

How scared of Russia should we be?

Well, for starters, you could ask passengers of MH17 plane... oh wait, you can't. They're all killed by a Russian missile.

Russian leadership is, simply put, a criminal cartel. Criminal cartel that is very, very, very good at spreading lies (and, incidentally - fixing elections). You should take this seriously.

Remember, notwithstanding the excess of the Scare, Soviet Union existed - and really was an enemy of the US. "Global Revolution" was an openly declared goal, part of sacred Lenin heritage. Cold War was waged using KGB personnel - war on West was the reason for their existence. People in power in Moscow now are, essentially, an alliance of mid-level officers of the old KGB and the Russian mob. They pretty much completely brainwashed their own people, and now moved "active measures" abroad, under so called "Gerasimov Doctrine".

To know you must ignore the American left. The American left was cool with Nazism when it was dividing Poland with the Bolshies but then did an immediate about face when the Nazis attacked the Bolshies.

The American left later called for unilateral disarmament by the US and marched with banners saying, "Better Red Than Dead." That was when there was a USSR. Now that the USSR is history, Russia can be the bad guy when that is convenient.

Well yes. I remember watching the movie Trumbo when it came out. That's what I'm talking about with all this duplicity. The left hate hate hated the red scare and Senator McCarthy for what he did. Now? Well, I'm not so sure.

On a personal level I've interacted with a quite a few Russians. As immigrants they suck. Bring over mob ties, are rude, the whole used car thing is in fact real and true. I'd rather they stay in Russia. So knowing that I'm a racist xenophobe and perhaps the most detestable thing on the planet. I'm wondering how my views and a remarkable amount of the alt.left all of the sudden line up.

I'm amazed at this. Truly amazed.

You must recognize that a good number of the marching Lefties were, to one degree or the other, influenced by the Soviets. Vast majority as unwitting useful idiots; "brotherly "Communist Party USA was financed directly. So what you remember is, in part, the result of KGB's "active measures". Exactly what Russia does now, except crazies it cultivates are primarily on the Right.

Primarily, but by no means exclusively. Gill Stein attended the same bash in Moscow as Michael Flynn, and both were seated on the same table, with Vladimir Putin. Russia-placed online fake news targeted alt-Righties AND Bernie Bros. RT and Sputnik+ are full of left-leaning errr... "eccentrics". Russian spy Julian Assange is no Republican. All these people are unwitting agents, or "useful idiots".

What you guys fail to understand is that Russian meddling is not a partisan issue.

Actually, as immigrants, Russians largely dissolve without a trace in second generation. They form almost no diaspora. Considering the numbers, their community is pathetically weak. Obviously, I also met quite a number of these people; things you describe are only noticeable where large number of first-generation masses. Brighton Beach and Miami comes to mind. And of course, these attributes are 0% about ethnicity and 100% about mentality stemming from growing up in Soviet mental institution of a system.

But I like your distaste with mob connections. These same connections are the source of "disproportionate" percentage of Trump's real estate business (not my words - Eric Trump's). Felix Sater, a career criminal, was Trump's "senior advisor". The family is on first-name basis with the Agalarovs, shady rich guys of an impeccable Soviet pedigree (father was in Baku City Committee of the Communist Party; son is an ex-husband of a scion of Commie and KGB royalty Heydar Aliev). They had no qualms employing Manafort, Oleg Deripaska's long time hired help (as a Campaign Manager!). Tell me, how in the world none of this bothers you?

McCarthy was, IMO, a showboat who probably set back the anti-communist cause. I'm 72 so I recall much of that era and I never liked that Commie became, as Orwell said of Fascist, more pejorative than descriptive.

I'm against all of the collectivist 'isms.' They all end up in slavery and mass slaughter.

You don't put up a building in Manhattan without the Mob. You pay them and you get Labor peace and timely delivery of materials. If anyone doesn't like that then they can stop voting for Democrats.

So that is the reason Trump went out of his way to find Russian and Azerbaijani mobsters to work with? Got it chief.

Actually, what you describe is a powerful reason not to vote for a NY real estate developer for President.

In Ukraine, we elected the smartest, most well-meaning oligarch for President (full disclosure: I didn't vote for him). Similarly to what you said, you can't manufacture and sell chocolate there on a massive scale without participating in the "game" - which he did with aplomb; long-time politician with ties to everyone, seamlessly "solved the issues" with customs, tax authorities, mayor, police. Built an empire; quality product, bunch of jobs created, worked with local (bought and paid for) authorities to make improvements to the city. Notably, never bankrupted a casino or ran fake "university". Turns out it's pretty hard to enact reforms to establish rule of law when you were so successful for so long in the old system. I believe he can't even grasp the concept, despite obvious smarts. He's not a massive disappointment on the scale of every single one of his predecessors, not yet. But he's getting there.
