    Mizzou all over again.

As with Mizzou, students into their programs will probably stay while prospective students look elsewhere. That would mean a student loss each year for several years.

When misfortune is the result of one's own misbehavior, then whatever ill effects accrue are often well deserved.

I'm not typically all that displeased to see terrorists' bomb making factories accidently blow up, splattering the terrorists.

Turning to Evergreen, I'd guess that declining applications are the result of a variety of things. As Bruce notes, there's the campus safety factor. There's a racism angle: If white students feel like they aren't welcome there, not as many will apply. And there's the reality that Evergreen is something of a 60's time-warp, created to be "alternative", emphasizing hugely politicized humanities while most of today's students want to study something more vocational. So despite the politics that it wears so defiantly on its sleeve and its conceit that it's always in the lead, Evergreen is kind of out of tune with the current academic Zeitgeist.
