My nephew is in and out jail. He got a job with a temp agency which is great. The only problem is they are going to do a background check on him. He has a felony for evading police in a car chase! I didn't have the heart to tell him he won't pass the background check! They asked him if he would pass a background check and he said "yeah" The hard copy application he filled out did not ask about felonies. His parents are all excited! Geez! I don't think they will be willing to give him a chance, although you never know I guess. The position is a machine operator. Oh boy! That kid, I tell ya. He puts his parents through so much heartache. He comes from a good well off family. I don't get it.
Legally, a felony conviction (not simply a charge) is an automatic disqualifier for any job requiring a security clearance or carrying a firearm. However, companies may also have their own internal rules about past criminal conduct. My point is that it's not a guaranteed death sentence for all jobs.
