I know we've got some MMA fans in the house. Any boxers? Anyone got a prediction? Video: Floyd Mayweather, Conor McGregor face off at final press conference
The only person in that video I care at all about is the woman on the left. My prediction: the boxer will win the boxing match. If it was the other way around, I'd predict that the MMA fighter would win the MMA fight. Am I not rather perspicacious? :bigok:
I'm not a big fan of fighting sports so I was surprised (maybe I shouldn't be surprised) that both of these guys are kind of dirt-bags. Mayweather especially with multiple counts of domestic violence and then McGregor making racist comments about Mayweather? My interest level just dropped.
..yet they'll bot make in excess of 100 MILLION for the spectacle... I figure that's the reason I don't watch pro sports - they are all overpaid to the nth degree while we have people that are homeless / can't afford food.
McGregor has the puncher's chance, but if he lets Mayweather turn the bout into a classic boxing match, he'll get picked apart.
What are the rules? Will it be like a MMA type fight, more like a boxing match, or what. Because if McGregor can grapple Mayweather down, he will be in trouble. Anyone?
It's a boxing match, no grappling allowed. The fighters are using lighter gloves than usually allowed (8oz as opposed to the usual 10oz), they have a one-time exemption.
1. Boxing Match = Mayweather Win. 2. MMA Match = Connor wins within 1 round. 3. Real Fight = Mayweather is dead within 1 minute. I'm watching for the spectacle.
Mayweather may well win the match, but he's making a ridiculous prediction with this; Floyd Mayweather guarantees knockout of Conor McGregor
I know the fight is this Saturday. What time does it start? I think I will go watch it at the local sports bar.
I didn't watch the fight but I guess Mayweather won - no real surprise. McGregor went into the 10th round so he saves face and they both go home a lot richer. If you watched it, was it worth all the hype?
Damn it! I missed it. Mcgregor went in to the tenth round that says something. He is no wuss. I figured Mayweather would win though.
I'm certainly no MMA guy, but I've seen highlights of his work here in there while watching sports related "top 10" lists. From what I've seen in those highlights, McGregor is an exceptionally hard person to KO, both from a physical standpoint and from a mental standpoint.
Indeed. And an exceptionally hard person to stop talking. But Mayweather did. Hey, it was a boxing contest, after all. That's what Floyd does! McGregor's talk made me think of an Irish Jesse "The Body" Ventura, from the former Governor's pro wrestling days. No reason to be unhappy, Conor. You took it well and went home with oh - maybe $100 million! A good day's work. The ridiculous part to me is this: Champion athletes like these guys are OK - they've earned the right to be well-paid. But why do they earn so much money? In a day, insane multiples of yearly (or even lifetime) earnings of doctors, who save lives daily. Doesn't seem right. J.
