Have any of you had hysterectomies? I know it is a major surgery, but what is the healing time usually. My wife says she is only going to take two weeks off. Is that enough? They did a biopsy of my wife fibroid today. Luckily, I believe fibroids are 99% benign. Hopefully the biopsy turns out ok. Any comments would be appreciated. My wife down plays things, so I thought I would ask. This may seem like a bizarre for an educational forum to some I suppose.
Sorry Kiz, I'm going to answer because I want Abner's wife to ask her doctor if she's a candidate for a vaginal hysterectomy (based on her short recovery, that very well may be what she's planning). It's still surgical, but not the barbarian open abdomen method that my grandmother went through. My best friend recovered fully in about a month. And also, I think I was reprimanded about 10 years ago for getting into a circumcision discussion <cough> with Matt Brent lol, so I'm probably due another.
Whoa . . . How did I miss that thread? It actually sounds as if it might have been funny. So I just did a DI search on circumcision, and it came up with [twenty threads (most of them quite old). Go figure... You never know what you'll find on DI. I decided it wasn't worth sifting through all of them, so I guess I'll just have to cut my curiosity. (Cut, get it?) Incidentally, one of my favorite lines, also from many years ago: "His pants were so tight that not only could you tell his sex, you could tell his religion." (Ba-da-bum!)
There's nothing wrong with answering if you want to it just seemed to me a little intrusive asking people if they've had a hysterectomy. Otherwise, isn't this something that you ask the surgeon? Why would that not be an adequate answer?
In related news, the National Organization for Women has announced that the hysterectomy will now be known as a herstorectomy. They felt that the mere sound of the original word was sexist. (Obviously a sensitive issue, and a serious one for Abner and his wife. But you should never pass up the opportunity for a joke.) So, has anyone here had an abortion? :arg: mfg:
Thanks for the advice Jennifer, I will have my wife as her doc shorter recovery procedure! I never heard of that so I am glad I asked.
