    Haaaaa that's laughable! LOL

It's interesting how no one suspected that Comey was leaking information to the MSM because he was the FBI director. That was very foolish on his part.

What he leaked was the contents of memos that he wrote himself. Not even anything classified. I'll be surprised if he's even charged for it.

Police agencies have policies that govern when and how information can be provided to the press. The FBI invariably also has policies that dictate when and how an agent may release information to the press.

If Comey was concerned that President Trump was engaged in criminal behavior(s), then Comey had a duty-to-act by reporting it to the appropriate authority (which is not the MSM in lieu of investigators, the DOJ or Congress). There are internal FBI protocols that determine who and how Comey can report information to.

An active-duty FBI director secretly leaking information to the MSM is highly unorthodox and it demonstrates that the deep-state DC swamp needs to be drained. The president clearly made the right choice by firing Comey.

Comey's secret leaking of information to the MSM (in lieu of Congress) is just the tip of the iceberg. This is not over.

We can, at least, agree on this point.

Kizmet, President Trump will be reelected. When that happens, you will be reminded that "you were told so." And we will agree on that point. Yes, we will agree.

That's correct. He wouldn't have leaked it and admitted it so freely if he was going to be in trouble. Some political commentators agree with you and have said that he won't be charged because it was nothing classified. Comey is to smart to do something that would end in him getting charged, he has been around the block several times so to speak.

Maybe not technically. But conversations between an FBI Director and the President of the United States would seem to fall under confidentiality and executive privilege.

If Comey believed that the President said anything inappropriate to him in private conversation, then he needed to inform his superiors in the Justice Department (the Attorney General in particular) and if necessary elected members of Congress. He says himself that he didn't do that. Leaking his version of his conversations with the President (we don't know if they are accurate) to the New York Times isn't how these things are supposed to be done.

I agree with you there. But it certainly justifies his being fired.

According to yesterday's Wall Street Journal the fear inside the FBI is that Comey's behavior might increase pressure for Congress to pass a statutory charter governing how the FBI must conduct itself. So far, the FBI has been able to avoid that, arguing that close oversight by the Attorney General is sufficient. But when the FBI Director decides on his own initiative to keep the Attorney General out of the loop, that process has obviously broken down.

In 2005 the FBI's Inspector General wrote: "Attorneys General and FBI leadership have uniformly agreed that the Attorney General Guidelines are necessary and desirable, and have referred to the FBI's adherence to the Attorney General Guidelines as the reason why the FBI should not be subjected to a general legislative charter or to statutory control over the exercise of some of its most intrusive authorities."

The Wall Street Journal opines: ""Mr. Comey is describing an FBI director who essentially answers to no one. But the police powers of the government are awesome and often abused, and the only way to prevent or correct abuses is to report to elected officials who are accountable to voters."

Given the FBI's extraordinary police powers to intrude into the affairs of average Americans, the fear is that without oversight the FBI could turn into what it was said to have been under J. Edgar Hoover, a law unto itself.

That concern inside the FBI seems to be that this runaway "deep state" stuff might push Congress into passing the legislative charter that the FBI has long opposed.

18 USC 641 - Criminal release of governmental information

It appears that Comey broke the law by releasing privy governmental information under 18 USC 641. It was shocking to hear Comey incriminate himself on-the-record.

    This is not over.

I don't know if he broke the law.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/politics/wp/2017/06/09/theres-no-indication-comey-violated-the-law-trump-may-be-about-to/?utm_term=.6a91384f3614

But if you read his written statement and listened to the congressional questioning and all you came away with is that Comey is a leaker then I'd say you're missing the point. People will be going to prison before this is through. Comey might get a slap on the wrist but other's will fare much worse. Sessions will be lucky to keep his job. "Obstruction of justice" is a term being thrown around quite liberally. Articles of impeachment are being written

Every day it looks worse for Trump and his people. Refusal to see this begins to require a break with reality.

I'm thoroughly enjoying this testimony, because it's pulling back the curtain on the corruption and hypocrisy of the left and the Democratic party.

My question is, what happened in a few short months that the Democrats suddenly think he's John the Baptist, when they were formerly calling for his head on the end of a pike?

    LOL

Kizmet, what academic credentials and/or training do you have that qualifies you to diagnose a "break with reality" for those who have different political views than your own?

President Donald Trump is doing an outstanding job:
    - in a politically dirty DC environment
    - that is filled with dirty political tricks
    - with backstabbing government leakers that have MSM ties

However, under the leadership of President Trump, unfaithful leakers are being identified and rooted out of the governmental swamp. Comey is the most recently identified "dirty governmental leaker" who was terminated by the president.

It appears that Comey broke U.S. law under 18 USC 641 by secretly leaking information that no one else had access to. However, lawyers and Congressional members will make that information public at the right time. It is not over.

    Comey broke the law.
On May 3rd he told Grassley, he never leaked information to the news. Now he admits to doing so.

Either lied under oath then, or he lied now.

Well, we've got a Republican controlled HoR, Senate, DoJ, etc. and so, if you're right and he has broken the law then I guess he'll be arrested and there will be a trial with lots of witnesses and subpoenas and full discovery and all that good legal stuff. I actually don't know how all this Federal legal stuff works but I just watched Comey say that he'd be fully in favor of the release of those tapes that Trump suggested he has. He didn't look too concerned with the prospect of full disclosure. Trump, on the other hand, doesn't even want to release his tax returns. So maybe, just maybe Comey broke the law and will be arrested. But maybe the White House has more to lose than Comey if full disclosure becomes the order of the day. Comey seems to me to be a pretty smart guy and he didn't look at all worried to me.
