Which programming languages are most popular? Does it matter? Which programming languages are most popular (and what does that even mean)? | ZDNet
Python is often cited as ideal for learning programming, whereas Java, C++, and C# probably come up the most often listed in job ads. But any answer is almost inherently controversial. I mean, while we're on the topic, which religion is the best one?
Quote of the week, for me, from the ZDNet article: "Programming is not just an intellectual exercise. You have to actually make stuff." I like the author's take on this whole thing. :bigok: Reminds me a bit of the late surrealist artist Salvador Dali's answer, below. "Sr. Dali, what is truly in fashion?" "Whatever is not." J.
I remember when a programmer only had to know COBOL. This language was used by about 85% of companies. Now you have to know about a dozen in order to work in IT. Well, I'm glad that I survived an IT career only knowing one language at a time - COBOL, and then later SQR (using SQL). I don't consider myself stupid, but I would be hard pressed to intelligently know 12 languages, let alone 20. The potential of mixing up the proper syntaxes would be challenging.
Not All are Easy HTML and CSS are easy. Python, C++, and Java are definitely NOT easy. I have worked with C++, Java, and HTML, not in any of my IT jobs but just for fun.
Oh so you were one of those guys who didn't know Assembler, PL/I, or JES and had to ask the real system owners when your COBOL faulted
