When I first saw the title I thought this must be related to the "artistry" that keeps the Kardashians "beautiful"

Remember from several years ago that guy who passed himself off as an MD in some foreign countries? And as an MD or RN (or something) in the US? The guy who was killing patients?

The Phony Physician Phenomenon is not unknown here.

Indeed, it's far from unknown. Here's an old quote from our well-worn "Bible" Degree Mills: The Billion-Dollar Industry That Has Sold Over a Million Fake Diplomas (John Bear & Allen Ezell):

"Twenty-five years ago, a Congressional committee calculated that there were over 5,000 fake doctors in the United States, and there are many more now."

We have more than enough in Canada, too. A Google search brought up some recent cases.

It's probably everywhere. Get past some gate by deceit or bribery and you can be Dr. J. ;-)

Maybe I already am. I once printed myself a totally bogus "Grand PhD" from a made-up Russian "school."
Why? Because I just wanted a little "znak" before supper. (I'm sure our good friend Stanislav will get this one, if he's around.)

Oops - looks like I confused "nauk" with "znak." Oh well, it'll have to do -- not as completely senseless as it might have been.

    A common error, I'm sure.

And the next time you see a 'doctor,' just ask yourself, "Did I really need a prostate check?"

I'll know the answer. "One minute you're in high school - next, you're 73 and watching your prostate like a hawk." Some comic - I don't remember who ... don't want to. Think I'll stick to my nauks and znaks.

BTW - Doktor Nauk (Dr. of Science) is a higher doctorate (above PhD) awarded by some Russian and Ukrainian schools. Znak is a word meaning sign or symbol (Russian, Polish and Ukrainian) that denotes quite a range of things - an association, a publisher and other entities. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Znak

Hmm...Ontario. And how old did you say you are? ;-)
