Of course you get all that back almost immediately because, as we know, Social Workers make so much money.:ugh1::no1:

I may apply to the University of Louisville hybrid MSW, but mainly due to its low tuition for military members. But I don't know if I can work the practicum with my job.

My wife works in the non-profit social services arena, she gets healthcare and their related job alerts from Indeed all the time. One she got last week asked for BSW +5 years experience. $14 an hour.

    Good grief.

I'm sure that you meant to imply that a BSW is likely deserving of much more money. But I'm not sure why one would hold that position. At $14/hr, you're talking about a salary just shy of $30k. When you consider how many Masters level mental health practitioners aren't making much more than that to start, it begins to seem reasonable that someone without the Masters degree is likely hitting their ceiling somewhere in the 30's. And without the Masters, not only is licensure not on the table, but the type of work you are doing is often, by necessity, limited to assisting those who have the Masters and the license.

I don't know if every state has this, but there is licensure at the BSW level.

Interesting. Thanks for pointing that out. The closest I've ever seen to licensure at the BSW level was in Pennsylvania they issued provisional licenses to BSWs. They could only be renewed a fixed number of times and were surrendered if you dropped out of your Masters or doctoral program.

Without diving into a licensing rabbit hole, I just looked at Payscale's average compensation for a BSW and it's around $34k. So, $14/hr for 5 years of experience doesn't seem terribly out of line.

Some MSW programs give advanced placement for BSWs. This means that with your BSW you can get an MSW for just one year's worth of additional schooling. That's a nice little bit of ROI.

    Hi

Have you looked into Western New Mexico University? Master's of Social Work (Non-Advanced Standing) it's CSWE accredited and you get in-state tuition if you take 6 credits of less in the fall and spring, in the summer you can take as many credits as you want for in-state tuition. I currently attended there and so far it's been a great experience. I'm currently arraigning my first field practicum. They have advanced and non-advanced standing programs.

i think the new mexico universities stopped that 'low tuition' 6 credits/term offer. i was looking at ENMU, they stopped showing the low tuition if you took 6 credits or less per term.

    checking WNMU's BSW program. Show's 6 credits for $1839. About $300/hr.

Hi nyvrem, The In-state tuition still applies, couldn't afford it if it didn't :) Tuition & Fees - Online Programs I think I paid around the $1900 total for 6 credits this spring. Summer is actually cheaper.
