My understanding is that this is a routine thing in politics at this level.

I think it is. If I was running for office (which I will never, ever do), I wouldn't want to put my tax returns out, either. It's not that I'm trying to conceal anything. It's the fact that our tax returns reveal so much about our personal lives. In a way it's kind of like putting a naked picture of ourselves out there for the world to gawk at. It's very uncomfortable and awkward.

Depends on your definition of "did." He released one year and a "summary" of another. This was inconsistent with Presidential candidates past (including Mr. Obama) who typically released years of them (see McCain). Romney was, of course, avoiding the embarrassment of having paid a lower tax rate than most Americans (due to his income being considered capital gains due to a loophole specifically designed for people in his profession).

For Romney to demand that Trump release tax records is a joke.

Romney also didn't have a problem with publicly accepting Trump's endorsement even when he was a wacko birther.

I think all of you guys who are obsessed with Trump are more annoying than the birthers. When it was obama refusing to release all of his docs that was ok. Now yall are the obsessed wack jobs

It would have helped if your statement hadn't been so broad.

I have always held the position that Obama should release all of his records. I feel the same way about Trump. It's a standard practice that goes with running for public office.

When a politician doesn't want to release a particular record, it's usually an indication that that person is trying to hide something. In Obama's case, I have long suspected that his college records would probably reveal that he isn't the incredible brain he make himself out to be... the self-proclaimed "smartest man in the room." And for Trump, his tax returns would probably reveal that either he doesn't make as much money as he claims, he doesn't give much to charity, or something else unfavorable.

Do you have a source for this? I'm curious when Obama said this about himself.

    Sure...

    National Review Online

The quote is from the book, "The Obamas," by New York Times correspondent Jodi Kantor.

How do you know anyone's stance on Obama releasing his documents? All you're doing is deflecting. Trump supporters are in perpetual denial.

    That's for sure.

Nope. He's talking about his competencies, not his intelligence. Huge difference. But I do appreciate the citation.

    Release or not release. Irrelevant.

If it is not released, then that is the problem. If it is released, then either not enough, not complete, or something in it to find issues with.

Both sides use the same game-book.

No I think he should release them if that's the norm. I would not, and to be frank, I think Trump is not the best man for the job. I liked Sanders, he had a very common sense approach to his policy's. He has no chance so I will go to my number two come election time and that's Trump. If you can not admit the people on the left are a bit obsessed (You Guys Here) then you can not be objective. I was about driven of this board when I asked about Obamas records, people got very crazy mean and hostile as I recall. Obama has never released basic documents so why hold trump to that standard?

How is that deflecting? I call you guys Trumpers!

That’s part of the public disclosure and scrutiny a candidate seeking the highest office must recognize.

BTW, Trump will NEVER release his income tax returns. When Trump says he can’t release his tax returns … what he is really saying is that he won’t release them. Count on it…

    Note: I’m a Republican.
