With the asking price from $1MM - $2.5MM, there's a good bit of wiggle room for the negotiation process.

 

Well, I would doubt it is one of the bigger players (PF or Ashworth). And I have doubts that it is one of the purely faith based schools.

DEAC has a relatively small number of degree granting schools accredited (especially if you compare it to ASICS). And you can rule out the non-profit schools (as the ad clearly states that the school is for profit) so, that's the University of Philosophical Research, Harrison Middleton and William Loveland, right off the bat.


One likely candidate could be my very own University of Management and Technology. I say this because it is one of the few schools that isn't corporate owned. A husband and wife team operate the school. It could just be that they've decided to retire.

But nothing would really surprise me. Maybe Taft is trying to get out of the business. Or one of the California schools sees the opportunity to effectively sell their accreditation to a desperate unaccredited school facing a changing regulatory landscape in CA.

Should be interesting to watch from afar.

 

DEAC accreditation is no easy task, not counting University of Atlanta, most schools really have to work hard to achieve it. I sent an email to see who it is but no luck as of yet. Lets all pool our money and make an offer.

 

All kidding aside, there's more than enough talent on this board to take control of a school and run it very well, perhaps even into eventual regional accreditation.

 

Sadly I don't have the sort of cash to make any meaningful contribution to such a purchase.

But in reviewing the list of degree granting schools which award undergrad and graduate degrees and are for-profit, my top picks are:

Westcliff
UMT
Ellis

This school is cheaper and boasts accreditation from MSA-CESS. It's regional accreditation, but it's only for elementary and secondary schools. This school also calls itself "one of America's most respected online private accredited for-profit career colleges offering online education & training." To me, it sounded like Penn Foster, but PF doesn't offer a program in legal nurse consulting. Pennsylvania, however, is a Mid-Atlantic state, and the ad says it's in the Mid-Atlantic region. Anyway, this school is going for $500k to $1m.

I think my $10 contribution is worth an honorary degree and a position as the dean of the School of Public Service. It'll house the criminal justice, homeland security, emergency management, fire science, public administration, and social work programs.

I would put my money on that being Blackstone Career Institute (also in PA).

 

That was the guess I made on the other forum after searching the DEAC database for schools that offer legal nurse consulting. Blackstone Career Institute and Penn Foster College were the only ones in a Mid-Atlantic state, but neither one of them offer a legal nurse consulting program.

 

If this university was so valuable then there wouldn't have been a need for this used car ad. These kind of business deals are mostly made public after completion.

 

I came upon Blackstone after searching DEAC for legal nurse programs. Looks like they used to have one (then again, go even further back and they used to offer LLBs).

I'd be disinclined to think PF would go for such a small sum. I actually interviewed for an HR job at the scranton office back when it was still Thomson Education Direct. It's a fairly large operation and it seems to have bulked up since.

OK, new plan, let's all jump on kickstarter, try to raise the $500k to buy Blackstone and then launch our first physical location at Sweet Briar. I know everyone else wants to be a department chair but I'd settle for one of those whacky tech start up executive titles (Chief Talent Officer, VP of Creativity, President of Synergy etc).
