This makes great sense for Ferrum. They are a great school with a beautiful campus, but are located in a crazy-remote location in the mountains of Virginia. I can see why they'd aim to find new avenues for expanding their student base in ways that transcend the limits of their geographical situation. We have a friend who graduated from there with a criminal justice degree; I think this has been a area of strength for Ferrum.

I have never seen a more remote location for a college than that of Alice Lloyd College in Pippa Passes, Kentucky. I have been there. It is shockingly remote. You travel on an almost completely deserted two lane road that winds its way through the mountains for what feels like an eternity. It is extremely rare to encounter another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. You then come to a little valley that opens up with a small college. It's almost surreal to see it.

I don't know that I'd say it's in the mountains, but it definitely is the middle of nowhere. Back in high school, I went to band camp there. It was a good 6 or 7 hour drive from my part of Virginia (the Northern Neck) to get there. I wish more of our four years would open up to distance ed!

    Ferrum!!!

Hello all, my brother was a professor here for about 7 years, he has sense moved on to another smallish college in Virginia. I went to my final year of college in the county next door to Franklin County, which is the county that Ferrum is in. My father was born in Henry VA, which isn't too far from this college.

The people there are magnificent. In my years at VA TECH, we partnered with Ferrum College and Roanoke College on a few projects and I must say Ferrum is in a very pretty part of the state. It is at the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains and is not far from Smith Mountain Lake (still have fond memories of summers on that lake)

I still have a few contacts there, if anyone is considering enrolling, feel free to reach out and I will be glad to give any information I might have or have access to.
