Can anyone recommend an online DBA program?

It does not have to be US based. Speed is an issue - I'd like to complete the degree as fast as possible (full-time). Sad but true, I need this degree primarily for the ability for an administrator to check a box. That said I'd of course prefer to enroll in an accredited university with a solid reputation.

I have 20 years executive international education and an MBA from a top university. The past six years I have taught graduate classes online and I consistently get the highest ratings from students (and administrators). In order for me to continue to teach online I must acquire a terminal degree.

Tuition is not that much of an issue - the most important part is the option to complete the degree fairly fast.

Thank you ahead of time for any guidance and ideas!:wave:

Does it have to be a doctorate in business? If the parameters are a little more flexible, let us know.

Here's one: Executive Doctorate in Business Administration | Executive Doctorate in Business Administration | Fox School of Business at Temple University | Philadelphia, PA

It's 3 years, part time, with six weekends in Philadelphia during the first two years. The rest is online. Dissertation is during the 3rd year. I believe it's expensive ($80K+ last time I checked), but it's from a respected business school.

FAQ shows this: "The total cost of the program is $124,200 for the Fall 2015 cohort."

    OUCH!

“The DBA is a 60 credit program offered using a cohort model where students attend classes one weekend each month for two years, followed by a year of dissertation work. Weekend classes will run Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon. Students will use our online learning platform in between classes to participate in discussion with faculty, submit assignments, and engage in other learning activities.”

“Courses for the three-year, 60-credit-hour program will be delivered by scholar-practitioners who are not only accomplished academically but also have substantial experience in their fields. The program is delivered in a blended learning format that combines online learning and traditional classroom instruction during monthly in-residence weekends (Fridays and Saturdays).”

Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) Degree | Online and in Oregon | George Fox University
“DBA students begin coursework in the late spring and continue year-round through summer and fall semesters. Students complete the majority of their coursework entirely online, but also attend an on-campus residency twice per year to meet in person with their cohort and professors. Class sessions are supplemented with reading assignments and projects, as well as participation in a vigorous online community. The primarily online delivery allows doctoral students to complete the program while working full time.”
“The DBA program is generally completed in four years with students working on coursework in years 1-3, and completing their dissertation in year four.”

“The DBA is a fully online doctoral programme. However, you will have the option of taking part in residencies that provide you with the opportunity to deepen your learning experience and to meet other DBA students and experienced researchers. The residencies replace one module of the programme and consist of two 4-5 day meetings, held in Liverpool.”

Does it have to be a DBA or online? There are several two year JD programs now. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accelerated_JD_program

Not to hijack the thread, however, is online teaching lucrative enough to justify "Tuition is not that much of an issue"?

Hi back2thebooks. Most DBA degrees I have been able to find outline a 3-5 year timeline. "Average". I have never been average in terms of academics or business accomplishments so I'd prefer something self-paced if possible. I appreciate that one has to go through the standard "research", "statistics", and other initial courses. That said, if there are credible programs out there with a max 2 year time frame I would be grateful for ideas and suggestions. Thank you!

    Dear Steve. Thanks for asking.
Well let's see. On one hand I have encountered many administrators as well as teachers who in fact have a PhD in Chemistry, Biology, Philosophy, or an EdD, or something entirely non business related. It makes me wonder - if you listed all the accrediting agencies - and their requirements - which would require "PhD in directly related field"? I am sure some do - were I an accrediting organization that is what I would require - however that is not what I see when I look at my peers who have been teaching for years with "the required credentials" - once you dig a little deeper. My goal is to be able to continue teaching graduate MBA classes.

Dear FJD. Thank you. I live in Europe so that may be a bit of challenge, but I will look into the program.

Dear major56. How nice of you to share all this information. I should have written that I live in Europe so blended or frequent residencies is not an option. I'll look into NGS, thanks again!

Aston looks very interesting. AACSB s not key in this instance. Thanks again for your post!

AACSB means about as much in Europe as AMBA or EQUIS means in the U.S.

So far as I know, the Heriot-Watt EBS DBA is self-paced. I suppose if you could really burn through the research methodologies component you might be able to progress quickly to the dissertation phase. But if you're comparing past accomplishments academically or professionally with learning how to conduct credible academic research and producing a dissertation that can get through peer review, that is something that typically takes time. You may be putting apples up against oranges. There may be forces beyond your control--such as a faculty mentor wishing to slow you down so you can cogitate on things, or to slow you down because he or she has other irons in the fire--that might slow matters down as well. It's not typically a well-lit path to a research doctorate, it can have bends and unexpected turns that can add considerably to the time to complete--or prevent completion altogether

Actually, AACSB, EQUIS, and AMBA are considered the "triple crown" of business accr5editation in the UK.
