New member. Please be gentle. In 2004 i walked down the aisle when I received enough credits to do so (108) and never finished. Now i need to finish my undergrad to fulfill becoming a cfp. It needs to be an acreddited school. I'm looking for online, cheap and the one that will allow me the most credit transfer and least amount of more credits to finish. My credits are from florida international, miami dade college and also have some clep. Also my gpa was shitty. I was not dedicated in my youth. Ijust wanted to party. My gpa is/was 1.788. Any help would greatly be appreciated

I'm surprised no one has responded yet. I would look at the Big 3 - Thomas Edison State College, Excelsior College, and Charter Oak State College. All 3 will allow you to transfer in a generous number of credits - even more than you currently have. A good approach is to look at each of those colleges and see whose program(s) you like best for your needs. If you need more help, then you could post your credits here and some of the business degree folks can help steer you in the right direction. You can also apply to all 3 schools and see what the evaluations tell you that you need. There's more than one type of business degree so you will need to figure out which ones interest you. Or, if you don't know, then list what credits you have so others can help you figure out what concentration or degree might be best for you.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond...a part of me wants to finish the degree in finance but ultimately it does not matter. It can be just general business at this point, heck it can be any type of undergrad degree, it just needs to be accredited. I have started looking into excelsior and thomas edison (just applied with thomas edison) I own my own insurance agency and also am a Financial Advisor so I wonder if my licenses (insurance and investment licenses) would help as I was doing the tuition calculator and saw that thomas edison had prior learning assesments (It's a lot of information that I have been trying to digest, but with the help of this board, I know I can get it done quickly and most importantly save some money)

anyhow, not sure best way to upload my credits but I will upload my unofficial transcript

I concur, the previous poster gave you good advice. I've heard TESC is great for helping people in your predicament.

Every term at commencement, when we put on the silly-looking robes and hoods and the funny, floppy hats and the ug students have their somewhat less silly attire on, there's always talk among the faculty to the tune of "Can you believe so-and-so is walking? What the heck are they thinking?" Or "See that kid over there throwing the mortar board? Little does he know but I just flunked him, guess he'll be back in the summer."

When I walked I knew I had a full semester to go. I just never went back. Is there more to my situation that I can do or advise that can be given? I have applied for thomas edison but is it as simple as taking four more classes or are there any assestments/exams/clep I can do to speed up the process?

Have you looked into finishing at your two previous schools? I believe FIU has online options and MD should be offering bachelor options.

I'm not an expert on these things, but typically a university will have a list of courses for which they will accept CLEP credit. TESC and Charter Oak would likely accept a broader range of courses than most. That's no knock on them, as they're both very legitimate universities with the highest levels of accreditation. I'm also wondering if your licenses might not be accepted for credit, maybe the 6 or 66 or what-have-you (don't know much about that industry). It was probably more rigorous work to get any of those licenses than most of your college courses. It can't hurt to ask.

I also believe FIU and MD should accept some clep.....depends on what you're lacking for a given degree. I suspect you have met the residency requirement at both already.

with fiu the prices just seem ridiculously high per credit they also want more than just 12 credits...the md one i looked into a little bit...not sure if they are doing bachelor in business yet.

They show two business degrees, one in supervision/management one in supply chain. Are you saying they don't yet actually offer these?

I will reach out to them to see if I can do online to finish, I was looking into big three I guess for some type of advantage in regards to assessments or exams for credit.

One of the challenges that Infoe will have if he returns to FIU is that he will need to get his GPA to 2.0 in order to graduate.

Since he needs "a degree," my first choice would be the Excelsior Bachelor of Science in General Studies. As far as I know, that's one of the most generous transfer degrees out there. Get the evaluation done and go from there.

    Good luck!

Excellent advise Shawn. Thanks, I will look into it.

So in terms of assessments or tests to be done. Would i find out here or from Excelsior?

Just a quick addendum to shawn's assessment (which I completely agree with) Excelsior has two degrees in liberal arts, a B.S. and a B.A. The B.A. Allows fewer business courses to transfer. So when you apply, just double check that you are applying for the B.S.

I was advising a woman who works for me to do this and she accidentally applied for the B.A. So when the evaluation came back far fewer of her credits transferred which caused an initial panic.

The licensure, that's what I was wondering. I knew that some licenses required a bachelor's degree, didn't know if all of them did. There may be training you've gotten that you could make a request to be reviewed for credit. I'd contact them at Charter Oak or TESC and ask. Some of these things are handled case-by-case. You also might need to do well in your remaining coursework, because some universities (most, far as I know) require at least a 2.0 to graduate. The fortunate thing is, GPAs climb really fast when you're low to start, so a semester's worth of work @ 3.5 would raise you over 2.0.
