I was browsing through UC's online page and under the IT section ; I was directed to this, Information Technology I went there from the online graduate programs page. It says $7600 for a Masters in Science in Information Systems Security (31 credit program). Sounds like a good deal ! They're RA too ! That's like $240+ / credit hour for a graduate program. Was there a catch to all this ? :speechless:
Low name recognition, I suppose, since they're not well known outside Eastern Kentucky. But many schools we regularly discuss here are perfectly serviceable without being household names. Pay your money, take your choice.
In addition to the regional limitation, they have essentially zero reputation as a technology school. It appears that they offer no other programs, at either the undergraduate or graduate levels, in fields like computer science or information technology or engineering. It wouldn't surprise me if their MSISS program is a relatively new and small program, perhaps limited in terms of faculty and other resources.
This archived version of UC's "Graduate and Online Programs" home page, dated February 9, 2014, doesn't show the MSISS program. So the MSISS appears to be brand new as of this year. This doesn't necessarily mean that the program lacks quality, but it does mean that it could lack reputation and recognition. In fact, there may not be a single graduate of the program yet.
Seems to me that this is a perfect "placeholder" degree. Some individuals feel that they need an IT/IS related credential. This will fill that requirement for a very reasonable cost. Don't expect it to open doors for you however.
Is the price they are showing on-line really the price for degrees? I noticed many schools advertising lower price-per-credits than that, but they have many fees, such as on-line fees, to add to that, making the final cost much higher than this. And is the price locked in at the time you start or do they regularly raise tuition just like public schools?
