    Hi All,

I am from South Africa, I would like to study at an accredited distance learning university aboad. South African universities accreditation not so good overseas when it comes to distance learning. I looked at Devry and Bircham.

Has anyone have any experience with them?

Please recommend other institutions or universities that is worth looking at.

    Thank You

    Andries

Devry and Bircham? Really? Please tell me you were able to make distinctions between them.

Your request is too vague. Let people know more details:

    What level of degree?
    What specialty/major?
How do you want to study?
Are you able to do residencies?
    How much can you spend?
What do you want the degree for?
Where do you want to use the degree?

Providing that kind of information will ensure you will have no shortage of assistance from this board's participants. And please, in the meantime, do as much reading as you can so you are able to make that distinction I mentioned above. It is critical to your choice and your success.

    Hi,

    Sorry for being so vague,

I see Bircham is an international University and Devry a post graduate college. Devry also has online options, those are the ones I was looking at.

I currently have completed my MBA. I am now looking to study software engineering..
I would probably start with a Bachelors degree,
I stay in South Africa, would like to study online or post
    No
Im not sure how much i would be able to spend. I will always make a plan if need be.
I do not want to stop studying and want to keep myself busy. I like computers so I want to go into that direction
Combine my construction knowledge with computer programming.

    Hope this helps.

Andries, the funny thing about this is that many people on this forum are curious about South African schools because they are perceived as internationally recognized and they're so inexpensive relative to schools in many other countries. I mean, no one in the world laughs at Wits, UCT, Stellenbosch, and the like.

They are all great schools, I would love to go there. Only problem is that they do not always allow part time/distance learning. You need to attend classes which unfortunately I cant. I work full time and really dont have the time to attend. I might be able to attend some night classes, then again, Wits is about 80km away from my house. Terrible to drive in JHB at night. Not safe at all.

What about UNISA? It's not as well regarded as those schools, but you should have an easier time navigating its bureaucracy than people overseas do, and it's affordable and recognized internationally.

But if you really want to consider foreign institutions, what about the University of London International Programmes? Although there are so many options, telling us more about your goals would really help here!

    My Goals:

I have finished my MBA last year. I actually just want to keep myself busy with productive things. I like computers and always though computer programming is great. Being able to write your own programs and solving problems.

I am looking to study software engineering or information systems engineering.

I dont have allot of money, so affordable institutions are preferable.

Any proper IT institutions that you know of

    Thank you

    Andries
