I don't think his first post was a joke- he seems to be reacting to the response he got.

DegreeDazed, I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt (a little) but what in the world are you here for?

I used to review engineering doctoral dissertations and saw that many do not involve a lot of writing (around 100 pages). One was a design of a spacecraft which included lots of drawings and calculation.

I might add that I know someone who attended UCSC and a dissertation was optional for her science based PhD (she took the dissertation path to enhance obtaining an academic position).

Sorry, the one I have to offer only comes in white, not red.

Dang...and so close too. Wait, if you can make it a well endowed red head instead of the blonde, then I could go for the white one. But all I have in payment is a stick of gum, half a grilled cheese sandwich, a 1/4 bottle of diet Mountain Dew, and some pocket lint (the blue kind). Let me know. ;)

If only it were a whole grilled cheese sandwich, I would have taken the deal.

Walden positions are like this but these are not tenure track positions and won't pay a fortune.

Ted, you can find out here:

    (1) For the movie: Dazed and Confused (1993) - IMDb
    (2) For the UK youth-oriented magazine: Dazed Digital | Dazed & Confused Magazine | Fashion, Art, Music, Film, Ideas | Dazed Digital
    (3) For the song (Led Zeppelin): Led Zeppelin- Dazed And Confused - YouTube

I believe there was a lawsuit over the song. Jake Holmes claimed he had written it.

TED: "And who is Jake Holmes?" (Just anticipating, Ted. )
JOHANN: "American songwriter. Wrote 'Be a Pepper' for Dr. Pepper and 'Be all that you can be' - US Army recruitment song"

There's even a Wiki that covers all three: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dazed_and_Confused

Doctoral degrees are really no big deal. Mostly a lot of sitting around and chattting with friends. I'd recommend that you apply to your local state university because then you can go to the homecoming football game and feel like you're a part of a big family. Best of luck with your delusion.
