NEW YORK (AP) — New York City mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner admitted on Tuesday to sending additional sexually explicit photos and texts to a woman he met online — an exchange she says began more than a year after he resigned from Congress for similar behavior.

The allegation could severely test voters' willingness to forgive Weiner, who has said he spent the two years since the scandal trying to make things right with his wife and earn redemption. Three of his rivals for mayor immediately called on Weiner to drop out of the race.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say he used the wrong strategy.

This is just soooo gross. I can't imagine how he even leaves the house after this. Legal charges? Sending pornography to random people? Do not pass GO. Do not collect $200. Just go to jail.

Sadly, if he remains in the mayoral race, there will be people who vote for him.

Since his wife has apparently forgiven him I think many others will as well. She doesn't deserve this pain/embarassment and he doesn't deserve her!

Agreed! Nor does he deserve the office of mayor, regardless of who votes for him. This guy would never get my vote. But...........I don't live in NYC.

Remember- NYC is the city of New York Post and Daily News.

Whipping out your weiner is exactly the kind of thing that endears you to the people of NYC. I doubt anyone even knows who he is running against (I certainly don't).

It's hard to see such an accomplished, well-spoken, well-respected, intelligent, confident (elephant in the room: attractive) woman be so humiliated in public.

For me there's two things that are critical. Here's the preface: I don't really care if your sexual life is substantially different than mine. I don't care and part of that is that I don't want to know. As long as no one is getting hurt you can do whatever.
    1) When you're sexting pictures of your junk to random females that's not cool. If there's some girl who wants to see you in your whitey-tighties then, fine sext your brains out, but sending that crap to random women, to me that's a sex crime.
    2) Doing the whole "I made a mistake and I'm sorry" thing and then just continuing to do the whole thing again makes you a liar. He's a liar. Regardless of the sex thing, HE'S A LIAR! How can you trust him? Ever? Good luck New York.

She's obviously not in the marriage in an emotional or spiritual way. He's nothing more than a useful tool for her own political ambitions (Hilary Clinton Assistant). She's just a power hungry political hack in a marriage of convenience.

Cory - Once again you're following this story more closely than me. What do you know that turns this woman into a bad person?

Usually I'm uncharitable toward those in the political class, but at the same time we shouldn't pretend to know her personally like that. I agree this is one theory fits the available data, and she wouldn't be the first, but it's not the only theory that does.

Well, I did a wee little internet search and found that she has been working for Clinton since 1996- 14 years before she married Weiner.

I also learned on the internet that psychic powers don't exist, so all the rest of the stuff you said is nothing more than judgmental speculation.

So MC, are you saying that 033's comments about weiner's wife, a complete innocent in all this mess as far as we know, are you saying that 033's comments are unfounded by fact , speculative and prejudicial? I mean he just spent two months complaining to us about people who did the same thing to Zimmerman. You're not trying to say that he is now doing the same thing to a woman who is accused of no crime at all. Are you trying to say that? No, I guess you're not. I guess that I'm the one saying all that.

Its the only explanation that fits for me. I did see where the chick he's sexting with mentioned that she thought Weiners marriage was a "political" one. Otherwise how can anyone explain the complete and utter lack of backbone in this educated woman? A very bright and hard working new age woman is standing next to one of the bigger d-bags we've seen in a while, and she supports him? My judgmental accusations are the only way for me to fit what I am seeing. If you watch the news conference you see Weiner talking then briefly he glances at her and she looks at him with some sort of sympathy/apathy or whatever and he cannot even look in her in the eye.

She has to be doing this for political power. Otherwise she's nothing more than some brow-beaten doormat of a person. I just chose the more logical (to me) choice.

Millions of people have stories that, except for the remarkable public attention here, are very similar. In almost all of them the straying partner has no access to political power. In plenty enough of them the straying partner doesn't have much access to money. Is the ONLY other reason the other partner might stay that they're a "brow-beaten doormat?"

Ms. Abedin's son is Jordan Zain Weiner. The couple works out dinners and laundry. They had a wedding and have parties and take vacations. They must have in-jokes and arguments over big things and arguments over little things. (Make your own joke here.)

Ms. Abedin could be monomaniacal caricature in a political cartoon, sure. Or she could be a human being in an awful, messy, but not all that uncommon human story.

Should she leave? That's a separate question.
