Hello, everyone! I am looking to get an MA or MEd online with no group work involved. I tried getting my MA online previously, but the members of my group were less than cooperative. I am a hard worker, and I would like to work independently. I would like something in curriculum and/or teaching. I live in a small town away from major colleges, so I need a school that has online offerings. Thank you for your help. :cool2:

Western Governors University is self paced. I know there is no group work in the nursing program. I would guess it would be the same for education. The tuition is also low too.

Go to the sticky thread "M.Ed. Degrees," where you will find a state by state listing of approximately 320 online M.Ed. degrees. Start contacting schools and just ask them if their classes require group projects.

I thought the idea of these forums was to hear from other students who would already have experience with this. I've already seen the daunting state by state listing. That's why I'm here, or why I was here...

If you're too lazy to actually contact schools on your own and ask about group work, are you sure you're ready for grad school?

Western Governors. The only "group" activity that I had was 12 required phone calls during student teaching. That was more of responding to questions then any group work.

Plus how they are (or at least were) set up, if I am unemployed and putting in 50-70 hours a week into the program. And someone else is putting in 10-15 a week . . . well bad area there. WGU is designed for the self-reliant. My mentor/advisor/coach stopped required phone calls because there was no question I was working diligently on my work.

I finished WGU in 2007 so there may be changes . . . but . . . at the time.

Northcentral University offers master's (and doctorates) in education, and on an institution-wide basis NCU is known for using very little mandatory group work. Of course specifics may vary among programs and over time. There are many, many comments and opinions about NCU in past threads on this and other DL boards.

    In defense of the OP

I don't think the OP is necessarily lazy. She isn't asking very general information that you can get very easily. Getting specifics about actual classes is not the kind of readily available information you can get by calling the school and speaking to advisors. I have done tons of research only to enroll in a class and find out something I would only have known if I had more inside information. That's why I signed up at this forum: to give and share more information.

Wow! And you're a "moderator"? I already explained that I am looking to work by myself because OTHERS are lazy and uncooperative. I'm sorry you didn't read that the first time around. The idea of these forums is to have discussions with those who have "been there" and can offer helpful advice. It is not a place for people with big egos and small winkies to pick on people.

    I'm with Ted. She's lazy.

And she has an attitude problem. This board has been around for a long time, she probably didn't even take the time to search for the answer to her question, and in more than one post in this very thread she appears to have a case of major attitude.

What does it mean to say that the members of her group were "less than cooperative?" How flipping presumptuous can you get? And what did the members of her group think of her?

Well, little Ms. Perfect, get your act together - it ain't gonna go easy, it ain't gonna be cheap, it ain't gonna be quick, (these are all common gripes of newbies on the forum, and you are a newbie), and it ain't necessarily gonna go your way in terms of group interaction. Now, would you like a little cheese with your whine?

So, suck it up (no, I'm not talking about Ted's winkie, the size of which is none of your business) and take some responsibility, mommy dearest. (Notwithstanding that if a guy passed a snide remark about the size of your breasts he would be rightfully banned from this board. So congratulations - you have proven yourself to be as sexist a pig as any guy could be. That's equality to be proud of... not.)

We know Ted, who has established his credibility over many years (and who, it would appear at first glance, has two degrees more than you have). You are merely a guest in our humble little community- more than welcome, as is anyone, but can the attitude. We're really lovable, even when it comes to lazy, presumptuous people with a persecution complex - um, like you.

Are you all trying to convince her to leave?

NavyMom, please ignore the above, which is not indicative of what this site is like on a day to day basis. Not that we don't have our off days :)

    Welcome to DegreeInfo.

Please feel free to just step right over them like they aren't even there. I hope you find the information you are looking for

I can relate to your comments about group work. I started an MAEd with UoP, and the group assignments were the reason I left. Like you, I had group members who didn't contribute much, and I suppose that's one of the downsides of attending a school that accepts everyone. I ended up enrolling at Walden. I finished in 2008. The program I did had no group assignments that I can recall. Granted that was several years ago, and things may have changed, but I liked how Walden did things. In the program I did, you had the same professor for two classes in a row. I liked that because it allowed some relationships to develop. Walden, unfortunately, like UoP, has gotten ridiculously expense. I had tuition assistance from my school system, so it helped, but I wouldn't recommend the place if you were paying out of pocket.

Small winkies? I don't believe you have the data to support that hypothesis.
