I want to earn an MSN in nursing administration. I saw a post on another board that WGU's program can be completed in less than a year. Has anyone here attended that program, and graduated within a year? I would also like suggestions on other MSN programs.

    Thanks

I had a friend who finished their MBA in less than a year. I'm sure it's possible since it's up to how fast you're able to finish their competency classes.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm planning on attending WGU because of the price. The school recently changed the program, and added 8 more credits. Hopefully, I can finish in a year like D's friend did:smirk:

Do you mind me asking what your career goals are with completing this degree?

WGU's MSN is NOT clinically oriented, at least not in the sense of clinical rotations and a big time commitment doing practicals.

I work in a hospital where a half dozen people are in the MSN at WGU, I'm taking the regular MBA there....WGU will let you do the program in as little as 6 months...there is a BUNCH of writing. 12-18 months is probably the "norm" for this degree, it all depends on your level of determination and time commitment.

That's correct! From the website it appears WGU offers a 38 credit competency based program that is CCNE accredited (good thing). My MSN with a clinical focus on Family Nurse Practitioner took 3 years! All the best!

I intend to become a nurse manager on a psychiatric unit. I was considering GCU, Norwich, Jacksonville U and WGU. WGU seems to be the best fit for me. Most nurses at my hospital attend UoP, but I wanted to research other programs.

I believe your $$$ will go much further at WGU, If you can finish in a year your looking at $7000. Even if it takes you a full two years your gonna be at roughly half the cost of the other schools you mentioned.

I don't believe a U of Phoenix degree to be worth the paper it's written on. I realize you CAN get an OK education there and I know they are accredited, but the name evokes images of diploma mill and it's ridiculously expensive compared to other reputable options...I just wouldn't do it.

I had a friend that completed their RN-BSN from WGU and started their MSN in administration at WGU. They enjoyed it and they got through the courses fairly well. The only reason they didn't complete it is because he decided on NP route over administration. In reading your career goals, I would do an nursing administration over healthcare administration. If you are sure on wanting to do administration, I would say this program is a good one for you.
