Oh, it sounds like we agree a great deal on this topic.

Perhaps that needs to be directed at both parties, not just one? In too many instances, a flame war will erupt with only one party--usually the one better at it--held responsible. Hate to see that.

AdjunctInstructor, You are likely correct that none of us has the inside understanding of what went on. It is the nature of these boards that people build speculation based on what facts or knowledge (or lack thereof) that they possess. Even experts get it wrong because they have no clue what is actually occurring. The nature of these boards is also that everyone speaks as if they "know". If someone is discerning, read the posts on boards but take the opinions with a grain of salt.

What I would say to you is to look at this from the point of view of an outsider looking in. Nations Univ has been at this for a few years. They had by most accounts good academics prior to attempting accreditation and were accepted by some accredited schools. Their academics by your account and others have only improved since then as a result of working towards accreditation. Their site visit by your account was successful and only some minor issues. Yet, they have failed to come up for a vote for accreditation. There were withdrawal and resubmissions of applications, issues with the education commission in Tennessee that caused last minute withdrawal (after a successful site visit), and maybe other things. Objectively, ask yourself what people outside of that system are supposed to speculate is the problem. It is apparently not academics and appearances make it seem administrative. That may or may not be totally fair in reality and it may or may not be that all the blame is the administration but you cannot blame people for the perspective that this is the case.

One final thought. Many people I have seen post on various boards want Nations to succeed. It is kind of a religious University of the People. In fact, I think some of the people criticizing the school have been supportive in the past. So, these are not enemies of the school just rather disappointed over the repetitive build up and let down as a result of what appears to be administrative missteps. The way to address this is to get the administrative stuff together and succeed.

It was directed towards anyone that read it; not just one party.

One of the downsides of my being a moderator is that no one gets to see just how great of a flame warrior I could be.

Just noticed today that Nations is again on the DETC list and will be looked at in June. There has been a lot said about NU, both good and bad. I would like to say that, as an NU graduate, my degree at NU has helped me with my walk with the LORD and also in a secular/practical way, helped me get hired by one of the largest police services in the world. I am thankful to NU for all that they have done for me, and for countless others across the globe. I also hope they get the nod from DECT his time...for them, not for me. They NEVER promised me anything other than a free education, and they delivered on that promise 100%. God bless you NU & I hope you get it this time around!

    Kickstart

    Kickstarting an old thread:

Anyone know about Nations process this year?
Were they considered at DETC's meeting in January?

    Thanks,

The whole Nations discussion is starting to remind me of the decades long hope for a Beatles reunion.

I can't believe it is taking so long to come to a decision to either award NU accreditation or not.

Yep, and this applies to Nations University. It's annoying to keep thinking why such a fine school fails to meet accreditation requirements. Hopefully, it will make it this year...

I'm actually getting tired of hearing about Nations.

If they're so great then why does everyone care about their accreditation? There are certainly unaccredited schools out there that have a "decent" reputation. Trinity Seminary, though arguably more contervsial, seems capable of drawing students. And at least a few of those students have taken on faculty appointments in accredited (some RA) seminaries. Regardless of one's opinion of Trinity, it is there and it has its believers. It is secure in its role as an unaccredited school.

If Nations is such a "high quality school" (that can't pass an objective evaluation of its quality) then why should accreditation matter to its adherents? Go out, study at Nations and quit harassing DEAC over an accreditation that is almost certainly never going to happen.

For those of us who have studied and are still studying with NU and are holding on on our assignments and tests so we can graduate when the school gets accredited, we care that the school gets accredited...

I found NU listed on DEAC website under Institutions To Be Considered as an Initial Applicant for Accreditation.

Now,whether this means a sign of good thing to come for NU, I cannot say...

You may want to reconsider that strategy. My prediction is that they will never become accredited.
