Breaking News-Nationsuniversity withdraws DETC Accreditation

I just called and asked a more general question about when they anticipate the accreditation meeting report will be posted. The receptionist said she believed that would be done before the end of Feb. So, it is unlikely to be out this week (if she was correct). Go and enjoy your weekend and start the waiting process again in a couple of weeks. If you get an answer sooner it is a bonus.

 

On second thought, maybe there is a guarantee. According to DETC's own rules:

So it appears that DETC is supposed to make notifications no later than 30 days after reaching a decision. If they made decisions during the January meeting, which ended on January 17, then they would need to make notifications by February 16 in order to meet that 30-day requirement. But February 16 is a Sunday, so one might expect notifications by Friday the 14th, or maybe Monday the 17th at the latest.

 

Ummm, the end of this week is before the end of February, ssoooo...

 

I hear you but I said something like "we should therefore not expect anything this week?" and she said correct. She may not really be in the know but that is what she said.

 

I go hot and cold on DETC but I doubt they would not follow one of their own rules.. we'll see, if they post the results later than 30 days it will be more fuel for the fire I suppose..

 

I don't know what the secrecy is about just telling if a school not listed on their website is being considered, especially when they publish a list that may or may not be complete, according to some sources that say Nations is on the list. That is all I wanted to know, not the outcomes and it seems it is a big secret. That is what I meant about the "cone of silence". The secy I called never got back to me, and my original e-mail was never answered. I got the reply by sending a message via their facebook site and they said they cannot even devulge names of those being considered.

 

Well, the DETC report is out. One new school accredited - University of the People. Some schools are voluntarily resigning (expiring) accreditation - e.g. California Miramar U. CIE/World College is on show cause! That surprised me.

No mention of Nations whatsoever. I think all hope faded a while ago.

 

Fascinating. Unfortunate (truly sorry latebloomer). Only thing I can suggest is to try and use it as an entry in LU's longer MAR program (transfer credit).

 

Looks like California Miramar is actually relinquishing accreditation. I am surprised about CIE and World College being on Show Cause though.

 

Congratulations to University of the People! They just never gave up. Now they need to update their accreditation page, but I'm sure they're busy celebrating right now :tongue:

 

Bummer for sure for Nations but congrats to U of P. I was very lucky to get my Bachelors Degree years ago from Charter Oak and I am glad others will be able to get their BA or BS degree. I can't do LU as I can't nearly afford it. Nations was my only hope but that is okay. I have a profession (HS Teacher).

I think I might look into the Graduate Schools in India as I would rather have a foreign Grad degree than an Unaccredited US one.

 

I have also come to the conclusion that Nations does not really care one way or another about accreditation. Their mission is to help train religious leaders in other countries and in prisons where accreditation is not much of a factor. I can't fault them for being true to their mission.

 

Can someone please explain to me (perhaps again as I may have been told before but can't remember) why Nations won't seek accreditation from a recognized Christian/Religious accreditor? Or, have they?

 

I believe TRACS will not accredit DL only schools and has other infrastructure requirements. ATS has residency requirements and as far as I know does not accredit DL only schools. DETC is therefore helpful to secular and religious schools who are DL only.

 

I wish I knew LA. once asked them and got no response. As for DETC, In their catalog it said they were going to be considered by govt accrediting body in January. Someone at Nations said that too. That seems to be simply not true. Why was that rumor floating? They were on the docket so many times and can't seem to get it together. Last June it was the state mishaps. Why did they spend all that time and money on the site visits and all the other application nonsense? The irony is that accreditation only matters for US Students and they are the only ones paying the tech fees. If they don't plan to go through with it, they need to state in large red letters that this is so on materials on their facebook page, youtube and website.

I really don't think they care about accreditation at all.

 

Well things do work out for the best. Nevermind Nations, India or any other distance university, a nearby Church in a town to mine has a Masters Program that is like a ministry training program and it is accredited and affordable but the catch is you have to come in person which works out well for me as well as I do spend much too much time teaching and commenting online anyhow.
With my previous coursework from Nations I will be ready if I ever get a chance to compete on American Bible Challenge and I do wish them well and have grown from my studies.

Good for UoP (bad acronym though).. I think no word means they are addressing issues, just like no word on Aspen re accreditation as their accreditation expired in Jan 2014, last month... and wasn't renewed at this meeting..
