Anyone has any idea about Roberb Kennedy College?

As our former Senior Member Gregg L. DesElms was fond of pointing out, there is a difference between a typo and a mis-spelled word. In the case of the word "Roberb," the incorrect letter, b, and the correct letter, t, are nowhere near each other on the keyboard; therefore it must be a mis-spelled word.

Folly is perfectly acceptable here, Rich. Always has been. Anybody's -- mine included! As far as drawing distinctions goes, we might have lost Prof. Occam/Ockham's famous razor again. We've somehow failed to keep it simple.

If the term bankruptcy doesn't fit comfortably, let's just say "insolvency." That, as I'm sure you'll agree, is simply running out of money. That should cover all - companies, countries, universities, whatever.

I guess the term bankruptcy covers the formal procedures and administration of that name. "Under administration" is standard British for a company in bankruptcy proceedings. I'm fairly familiar with bankruptcy, actually. I spent 30 years in the credit business and most days I'd have something to do with a bankruptcy, whether corporate or personal. Maybe filing a claim, maybe collecting debts owed to the bankrupt firm, for remittance to the trustees. All kinds of gopher work, in bankruptcy!

In a commercial law course many years ago, I was taught that the first act of bankruptcy is "ceasing to meet liabilities as they become due." A-ha! First insolvency, then bankruptcy, I guess. Anyway - I'm comfortable with either word in regard to U of Cumbria's narrowly-avoided fate. If others are not, then we can say "insolvency." OK?

And no - of course you'd not get a piece of the Acropolis. Any more than you'd get to seize a nice black Camaro convert. off the line when GM went bankrupt -as it did. It's an orderly administration -- looters might get shot! :jester:

I have some Russian Czarist obligations, pre-1917. Yes, really. They're not rare, at all. A foolish investment in my youth. I'm sure Vladimir Putin wouldn't give me a piece of the Kremlin - though he might put me in Lyubyanka prison!

Ditto for my old 1930s banknotes of the "Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation." HSBC Bank (Canada) isn't about to redeem them, either. And I have a Cuban peso that says "pagará al portador en oro" but can't get gold for it, either.

Seems sometimes I have more worthless money than the real stuff.

Words on Robert Kennedy College, from past posts:

"Degree mill." - The illustrious Dr. Steve Levicoff.

"Why doesn't someone form Sirhan Sirhan University and put these guys out of business." - David Boyd.

(If I'm not mistaken, Mr. Boyd, J.D., CPA, is Chancellor of DETC-accredited W.H. Taft University)

"There isn't a recognized accrediting agency that would take one look at this "school" ... Stay away."- Rich Douglas, 2001

There's lots more. It was a fun search.

Bear in mind that those past comments refer to RKC issuing its own degrees, rather than what they do now, which is serve as a gateway to degrees issued by others. There's a very big difference.

Maybe so. But I still wouldn't go there, with that kind of reputation. As shown, even the name (and its purported origin) has been suspect, all along. My take: if you want a degree from U. of Cumbria or York St. John - study there. Forget interlopers with fishy pasts. Deal direct.

Quite right, but I wonder if this is a distinction without a difference? In other words, the process has a much better result (a degree from a recognized university instead of RKC), but it still remains a bad idea.

    Or elsewhere.

Right. U of Wales was courting disaster, offering its name on degrees earned through RKC and many other schools. Who's to say these two schools, Cumbria and York St. John might not end up in the same boat?

Yes indeed. Even the direct choice of a school that would make this type of association for a little cash might well be a mistake.

Roberb? OK, it's wrong. Let's change the name and make it right. The school itself tells us its name has nothing to do with the real RFK, who was not a person I would ever make fun of. So, in light of that info, how about "Rhubarb Cannery College?" :jester:

And I suppose that Robert Kennedy College has nothing to do with the Confederate spy of that name who tried to burn New York City to the ground.

Its more interesting to postulate that it has everything to with Confederate Spies...

RKC isn't the actual University. They provide the connection needed

    Hello,

I'm currently working on my Dissertation with the University of Salford over RKC. The courses and grades all come from the University of Salford. The Professors all have degrees from top rated Universities. A couple of the professors received their PhDs from Harvard. When you graduate, your degree comes from the University hosted over RKC. It doesn't even say you did your degree online or through RKC.

Please tell us why you decided to earn a Salford degree via RKC instead of applying directly to Salford? What advantage was there for you?

I'm wondering how many professors with PhDs from Harvard would work for one of the lowest rated universities in all of England. Really? Maybe, but as a skeptic of random claims on the net, I say "show me".

The poster was probably a shill. I think Salford is above board and legit.

Absolutely Salford is legit, they're just not very highly-ranked. But a very legit B&M uni.
