I am considering enrolling in this program - Project Management Certificate | Degree Programs | SPC

It is a local school (10 minutes from my house), cost about $2K, and is a topic I am interested in and will help me at work. I plan on taking the PMP next year so this can only help.

The down side - it is at an undergrad level so I would not really qualify to teach PM classes. Would it look odd to get an undergrad certificate (or post bachelors as they call it ) since I have advanced degrees? It is not a "big name" school either.

Does anyone have other PM program suggestions?

What about a master in project mgmt? You may only have to do 18 credits for the master with maximum transfer in. Also the effort in time may be the same as the undergrad.

Any suggestions on schools? I have looked at the Florida Institute of Technology's MS in Project Management (not to be confused with Florida Tech Online).

Of course you can spend some big bucks and get a CAGS in Project Mgmt at NCU but I am sure you already thought about that Randell. :)

Let's see...$15K for a graduate certificate from NCU or $2K from a local school....hmm....I think I would go with door number 2!

    Not too cheap -
Based on current academic tuition rates, the estimated cost of the certificate is $8,760 in state / $18,000 out of state. Additional fees may apply, including course materials. Tuition rates are adjusted annually.

What are you trying to accomplish? If it is to become a PMP, there are much less expensive, quicker, and simpler ways to prepare. Taking a 5-day prep course prepares you for the PMP exam and also gives you the 35 contact hours of PM training necessary to qualify. (I assume you have the PM experience to qualify?)

It would not be odd to get the certificate you're looking at, even though you have advanced degrees. And the name of the school won't matter too much.

Frankly, I'd go straight for the PMP. Oh, wait a minute....I did. (PMP since 2006)

I was looking at Liberty University's M.S.I.S. Technology Management degree because it has some project management courses in it, as well as Northeastern University's MPM program. However, the link you provided for University of Wisconsin is very attractive! I noticed they accept up to 12 credits to be transferred. Only thing I'm unsure of, if I would need to take 6 or 8 classes at UW. Either way, it is still a great deal. My company pays up to $10K per year.

I would agree with Rich here.......if you are just looking for the PMP, skip the academic program and go with a prep course. You can do one in a non-credit status from many well-known schools such as Stanford, University of Washington, Loyola Marymount, etc. for a fraction of the cost of an academic program. What you be accomplishing with an additional academic credential that you could not with a continuing education one?

My goal is to test for the PMP next year (I have the Lean Certification to do this year and the Leadership Program from the University of Florida Leadership Development Institute) because they are changing the PMP test in the summer and I am not ready for it now.

My goal was to possibility teach Project Management seminars and the academic credential could only help. I already have my Project+. I figured a certificate, Project+, and PMP would be ideal.

At $6,195 I can not justify spending that much money. Applied Project Management | Certificate Program | Villanova Online

I took a pay cut when I changed jobs 6 months ago and I have gotten a bit more thrifty :nervous:
