Colorado Tech vs DeVry, which is better for CIS?

 

Between two... I would vote for Colorado Tech.

Is there any reason to limit yourself?

 

I would go with DeVry. I attended in NJ campus in the mid 80s and loved it.

 

I would say neither. Both schools have pretty terrible graduation rates and are know for being Lowest Common Dominator type schools.

They literally SELL you to get you in the door, and both schools run commercials at 1pm on weekdays trying to attract fresh meat to suck financial aid dollars from.

Now that's not to say it won't work for you, but both schools have graduation rates below 25% and a four year degree costs upwards of $50,000. That doesn't seem like a lot, but wait till you get your first job making 30k and have a student loan due of $500+ a month for the next 20 years.

Again, do you research. Ask a recruiter what's your drop out rate and see if they answer you honestly.

Disclosure, former student and graduate of Devry, graduate of worthless... Ahem, excuse me, Westwood college. Current student at TESC, BSBA in CIS.

Sorry it was late last night and I was a little bit sleepy! I didn't graduate from Devry, only attended. Those guys came out to my house when I was a high school senior, and started hitting my parents up for money before they even sat down on the living room couch. They targeted me and others like me because I was shiftless, and after they gobbled up my pell grants and wanted more cash I left.

I graduated from Westwood and it was a dog and pony show from start to finish. My instructors weren't bad people, but the curriculum was horrible. I learned more about networks working there, than I did sitting in class. Also they used high pressure sales to get 18-14 year old sign up. Even the adult got sold "the dream".

My favorite claim of Westwood's was that, they help 98% of graduates find works. It seriously helps that they have a 16% graduation rate. If less that 2 out of 10 graduate, that 98% job placement gets a lot easier.

With these for profit schools, it CAN work. But often they do not. The worst stat about these places is that the loan default rate for for-profit colleges is 25%...

 

I'm a WW grad too. I have mixed feelings about them. One reason I'm getting my Masters from a big NCAA D1 non-profit is because of my WW degree. While its a degree and is legitimate I felt it would be my scarlet letter. A Masters won't erase the past but it will certainly help move focus away from my WW degree.

I don't want to sound extremely negative about them. The degree was critical in securing my job. But a Ivy it is not...LOL.

 

Before you decide, you should juxtapose the course content of each program to ensure that specific/core CIS courses that interests you are included in the program. Considering that some CIS programs are by name-only (many are MIS/IT management in nature), a side by side review of each program will expose whether you will acquire the requisite skills that'll enhance your success in the field. I earned my AAS in Electronics and BS in Technical Mgmt. from DeVry. Based on my experience at the school, I'll say DeVry (yes, i'm biased), but that may also be due to ignorance about Colorado Tech.
