US - 529 plans? Tax advantages?

    This question isn't necessarily distance learning related but I know this board has a high number of adult "non-traditional" students that are paying their own way for degrees and was just wondering whether a 529 plan for funding one's own education is a good idea.

    Check out your state's benefits. Using my state's plan, we receive a state income tax credit of 20% of all contributions up to $5000 and there is no minimum amount of time the funds must be in the 529 account. It is an incredible deal.

    Ditto for my state of Indiana, though I'm going to guess GeneralSnus is also from Indiana since I'm not sure any other state gives as much.

    I am, and I'm so pleasantly surprised that Indiana is ahead of the pack on this.
