My best friend is really interested in this degree, but we're both a little puzzled by it because it's not on the website for online degrees offered, yet the website for the degree itself says this: "Courses are taught in person and online all year round, with the face-to-face classes meeting in the evenings at Virginia Tech's Old Town Alexandria campus." Anyone know if this is a hybrid degree, fully online, fully b&m, or what? Public and International Affairs | NCR | Virginia Tech
Here's a radical notion: pick up the phone and call the school. I'm guessing they're not hiding the answer.
I'm sure they're not. But since a) it's late at night b) it's a Friday and c) it's the holidays, I'm guessing there won't be anyone to call and ask. Therefore I asked on HERE to see if anyone HERE knew anything about it before she can call, which likely won't be for a week or so. But thanks for your insight. :/
There's a difference between saying that courses being offered online, and saying that all courses you would need to complete the program are offered online.
I'm guessing that the program is offered both online and on campus with the on campus classes being offered in the evening. If this is the case, it would seem to be a program that caters to working professionals. When you're able to call the school I'm sure they'll confirm/clarify.
Well said Rich...and wish them a Merry Christmas from me too. Seriously, would you rather have a fast answer that might be wrong or just call the school in a few days and the right answer? After you call them you can post an "answer" rather then a question...what a concept.
Maybe the first post was inelegant, but it would have been entirely reasonable and non-controversial to ask whether anyone knew about this degree in general. And I guess it kind of did that, too. Could we put the part about the residency requirement to the side: Anyone familiar with the MPIA in Public and International Affairs from Virginia Tech? Insights, thoughts? These might help the OP's best friend.
I would rather someone, if they have any actual insight about the degree, just give me an answer. Obviously she will call when she can, but in the mean time I thought I would post here and ask. Not sure why it ruffled so many feathers, but you could ALWAYS just not read the post if it really offends you that much. Now THERE'S a radical concept.
Not sure how my post was inelegant. I simply stated the part that was confusing to us and asked if anyone had any ideas about it. Again, not sure why people got their panties in a wad over it, but whatever.
NMTTD, I found this website, but I'm not sure if it is what you are looking for. Hope it helps! Virginia Tech | Government & International Affairs
Thank for this. This is what I found: "Offering Courses All Year Using Multiple Instructional Methods: Our program offers a convenient mix of face-to-face seminar classes and online courses. Classes are held Monday-Thursday in the evenings and occasionally on weekends. We offer course all year round: regular semesters in the Fall and Spring, and two intensive semesters in the Summer. Sounds to me like it's a hybrid degree that caters to people who live nearby and can make it to the face to face classes. That knocks her out of taking it. Thanks for the link!!
I typically do not read what you post. I was reading Rich's post and it lead to yours. I will be more careful in the future.
WOW. Had no idea you were such a hater. And here I had respect for you and actually enjoyed most of your posts. Guess that's over now.
