To all out members, friends and lurkers who are in the path of hurricane Sandy, please stay safe and no heroic (stupid) acts. I'm down in New London helping a friend to button up for the storm and then we're bailing out for the northcountry. Depending on which way the ball bounces I may be off-line Tues-Wed. Those to my south, stay dry and the best of luck.

If you're in low lying areas consider getting out of harms way.

On a lighter note ... my mother's name is Sandy and when I was talking with my father today, he said if you think that storm is bad you should try living with her.

Be safe that's the word, to all of you at the East Coast. A family member spent 6 hrs total over the phone re-booking an international flight that she had for this coming Tuesday. She was dealing with 2 different airlines, as far as I know, it was a hassle; however she got what she needed.

Thanks, Kizmet. I hope you are safe as well! I live in Pennsylvania, and it looks like it is going to be quite a storm..... :umbrella:

I'm in Northern Virginia, and expect to lose power for a while. It's the way of things around here. Anyway, tasks today include gassing up the cars and consuming as many things out of the freezer as possible. :)

Stay safe and vote early (and often if conservative). :rambo:

We had a heck of a block party clearing out freezers after our last big blow, grilling in the alley every day for weeks. We got to know some neighbors much too well! Power was out for two weeks so we know how miserable that can be. I had one of the few gas operated generators (wore it out after that hurricane) so I let a couple of close neighbors run their refrigerators off my generator, but had to give stern lectures to them when the ladies blow dryers kept tripping my generator. One refrigerator or one TV, but definitely not with a blow dryer please! :yikes:

Update: The wind is blowing pretty good right now with horizontal rain. Still, no power outages so we're all safe and sound, reminding ourselves about daytime television. I hope you all are well.

Me, too. But my neighborhood is relatively new and free of tall, old trees. We won't lose power unless everybody loses power. Then we can also expect the water system to fail, which affects everyone. So.....

If you're in the path of this thing, fill a bathtub of water. If the water system fails, we'll be without potable water for days.

    Stay low, everyone!

Naw, stick to conservative strengths. Vote only once, but repress as many others as possible.

Who said there was no defense in politics?

Whoops! My mistake here. By no means is voter repression a conservative idea or practice. (I mean that sincerely.) Conservatives are quite supportive of our democracy.

But it has been for the past several years a Republican practice. Just another example of how the Republican party continues to violate conservatives' values. Sorry for the mix-up.

I've never understood the bathtub thing. Who'd want to drink out of a bathtub? I have a case of bottled water. Muuuuch better.

The tap water where I live is quite good. Periodically I buy a case of bottled water and then when I finish a bottle I just fill it with tap water and put it back in the fridge. Over time I lose the bottles in one way or another and eventually I buy another case of bottled water. Probably 2-3 cases per year. No big deal. No bathtubs.

Regarding the storm, nothing big ever happened in my neighborhood. The electricity blinked a couple of times but no real loss of power. Clearly, many others to my south were not so lucky. I hope you all are well.

In the hurricane we had in the mid-2000's, we lost water for days. (The power knocked out the water plants, so even when the water returned, it wasn't potable for several days.) It came in handy for bathing, mostly.

We made it through with minimal issues. We got word that our two counties were going to be the hardest hit in Virginia, but I guess that was a bit off. We didn't lose power at all. It was windy as anything, though.

I thought it was obvious I was joking, but I quess I should have clearly stated so. Sorry.:eek:uch: Also, just to be clear, I don't agree with repression of any voters, redistricting every few years to exclude/include, or any form of voter fraud. I am a 'party free' conservative!

Redistricting is done every 10 years to reflect changes in the U.S. Census. It isn't done "every few years" for whatever reason. In other words, it's mandated Constitutionally, not something triggered because some incumbent politicians want to gain an upper hand. Of course, the incumbents when redistricting occurs strive to do just that, but they don't initiate it for political purposes.
